piston ring gone can cause dipstick to pop up too iirc, turbo seals = engine out=£££'s

Hi everyone I looking at buying this car but need your opnion. It seems like a good deal but im not sure about it. Is there a way to tell if the smoke is caused by a turbo seal or blown piston ring without doing a compression test? here is a link to the car. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1126830.htm Thanks in advance for your help.

Not really. But if a turbo has gone, then easiest way is to see if it smokes on idle. If it's got new turbos, then they should be ok. It could be PCVs, but if there's no way to tell unless you actually get the car and check it out yourself.

For 1500 though, it's worth buying, even if it needs new pistons! LOL

love that front bumper needs some side skirts to match tho lol. think Zedworld charge £1500 to replace the turbos and i think its the same price for a new engine replacement.

I spoke with the guy on the phone and he said the car had about 400bhp. he also stated the turbos were upgraded and that he blew the turbo seals by accidently knocking the car from overdrive down to drive. Knowing that im thinking that the engine may be blown. How much hp can a stock block handle?

I would make no assumptions on whats gone and buy the car with a view in mind to having a replacement engine.Thats worse case scenario at least if it turns out to be something else its a bonus.Even if it only smokes on idle and has all the symptoms of failed tubs assume the engines fubar and budget for it.Nice looking car but still try and knock him down if you can.

Can anyone tell me why its more expensive to have the turbos rebuilt than to have an engine swap done. I rang up zedworld today and they quoted about 1500 for an engine swap with a second hand engine and turbos. For a turbo rebuild its more along the lines of 1800 pounds. Does anyone know of any other shops capable of doing this type of work? I would like so other prices just to compare.

His description of knockign gearbox from overdrive to drive makes no sense at all.

Its the same labour to replace engine, as it is to replace turbos (engine has to come out), but you have to factor in the cost of a Turbo manufactors labour to rebuild them.

Speak to Jimmer, above ^ , very respected Z specialist.

My thoughts exactly :slap: as overdrive is a button on most gear knobs and so needs pressing to activate/deactivate, so cant be done by mistake, also putting it from overdrive on to overdrive off would just activate engine breaking so unless he was doing exessive speeds i dont see how this could damage anything, as overdrives highest gear is 3 and 3rd gear will take 80 mph and above ?????????

:headvswal

iv spent alot of money on this car it had it had a full respray what cos me £2795 it got a full stainless steel exhausts system

I'd be dubious buying from anyone with that level of English!

Just an update. I bought the car today as the engine seems fine. I believe the turbos to be shot. The car does smoke, however didnt burn much oil if any on my 61 mile drive back. Either way its going to zed world when I get it back from the impound lot. Damn cops. I almost made it home. Does anyone know a good/cheap place to call for vehicle towing or car trailer rental. I would like to get the car to a good shop asap to have the engine swaped or turbos rebuilt. If you are wondering the fee for driving with no mot is 60 pounds. No insurance is 200. As for the towing and impound fees, I will let you know tomorrow. Lucky for me my existing insurance policy covers me for 30 days upon purchase of a new vehicle. I know some of you were asking about the paint on the car so let me inform you on its condition. First off the guy showed me the bill for the paint work and the price in the link is correct. Now for the good part. The paint was done very well and I didnt see any flaws in it. It looked really nice. Its the BMW metallic gray and it just looks awsome on the car.

Lol that’s a bit of a story there, At least you got the Z technically

hope it's outta there asap, and on the rd to recovery not sure on the towing Q' but some one more local may know

Im picking the car up on friday as I have just returned from the police station with the release form. Then she will be sitting around till I can get her in for an engine swap. I did manage to find out what the towing cost is gonna be. WHL charges 150 for pickup and transport back to their yard and 20 a day for storage.
