can any1 tell me if there is a vvt solenoid valve at the end of both camshafts? i always thought there was but this diagram seems to suggest there is only 1 on the right bank...

your diagram shows the right side cylinder head, the two pulleys you see are 1 inlet (with vvt) and 1 exhaust, on the left head you have the same so the answer to your question is yes, vvt on both left and right inlet cams.

i have developed a very small oil leak from the left bank vvt solenoid... looking at this picture, it has a liquid gasket on it, not a rubber seal like the front. you reckon i could slap a bead of sealant around the area to reseal or is a strip down and reseal the only way forward for this old girl?

never tried it. I think you would end up fooking up the rubber seal on the top cover. i would give it a good clean up around the area a try slapping some instant gasket around.
