Upon stripping the door handles off my JDM breaker today, I realised that the ring around the lock can be illuminated. Does anyone have these that work?

Although the handles were fully intact there was no sign of any sort of lamp.

Would it be easy installing bulbs there?

Yes the US spec cars had illuminated barrels if you take a look there is also a tab for a micro switch the idea is to help you find the key hole when in total darkness, a small lift on the handle triggers the switch and on come the barrel light, would be reletively easy to retro-fit.

Would definately be interested in trying this one while i've got everything apart :D

Nice meeting you today Baz and cheers for the steering column :)

so which Z's had this feature?.. us spec and some JDM..?

Just US spec as far as I know, however all of the handles have the facility to retrofit it, only thing with most cars having alarm controlled central locking is its a bit unrequired but cool never the less. :D

I'll get a pic up so we can all have a peek and then you'll know what we're on about! ;)

  • 1 year later...

Just bought 4 of these from the U.S today.

I cannot use the dome light/ignition barrel light mechanism unless it goes on the passenger door for obvious reasons.

Was going to measure the bulb and retro fit these, I bought these for the plastic bit on the back of the barrels with the circlip as they.... umm... break.... a bit.......... lol, and to see what led ultra bright white led bulb I can illuminate my current handles with.

The 2 parts of loom and both plugs will not go anywhere inside my door I don't think anyway as the JDM loom never included this. Wrong or right anybody?

Hope this helps?

I would love to see a 300zx with this feature already done on here, maybe I will be the first? lol **russles around in garage for soldering iron licking lips**

instead of illuminating the barrel, and having in mind that when the remote central locking is key fob activated the passenger compartment light comes on. would it not be easier to take a feed from that relay and send to an led each side that illuminates the Underside of the door handle flap ala BMW ..it would only need a small 5mm hole drilling in the handle case and an led epoxy glued into it out of sight ...just an idea

:winkiss:

I usually make my own, or buy led strips 5m at a time, prism stuff is a little over priced, but it does the job if youre in a hurry or need something ready made.

I live on here and ebay :tt2:
