I would say ask Zedworld for an opinion if they have worked on it, looks clean, certainly not the only T reg you will find but there are not many about, looks nice and clean, as for wether its a TT or NA, could be either so ask the seller or Jeff if you talk to him.

If it was in really nice condition I would pay that, but I would go with the cash in my pocket and start the haggling at £5k. Not so happy about it having a new engine but hopefully Jeff at Zedworkd can shed some light on that.

This car was discussed a couple of months back, when it first went on sale. The advert suggests its an NA, If it was a TT i'd have thought the seller would of said. There are no clues in the pics, I would be very suprised if it was a TT.

price-wise I think thats a great price for a 99 NA. Prices for 99spec TT's seem to be more like 10k-12k

Ah so it's been up a while and not selling, that is interesting in itself.

It is the NA model I want, I've been told to steer clear of the TT models.

Haha, good man !! but that quote may get a few remarks !!

lol, whoever told you that is rather ill-informed, but it all depends on what you want out of the car. I've owned and love both versions.

I bet yeah, not trying to stir up any bother mind!! :-)

I was told that they are a nightmare to work on, bottom end trouble, electrical problems and for all the bother, not worth it over the n/a.

I was all set for buying a Legacy RSK until I seen this black one and thought mmmm hello!

Other than the job of actually replacing a turbo, both the are the same to work on. Both engine bays get very hot, which has an affect on electrical connections and looms over the years, the TT probably does suffer a little more than the NA with this I agree.

Bottom end trouble is not a common issue with either, although where I have pulled a customers Z engine that has spun a bearing or shot a rod out the side of the block its actually usually an NA, becuase owners tend to rev them much harder. But as said, its not a common issue and has only really been from bad maintenance, allowing oil levels to drop low.

The Z32 really isn't as hard to work on as many would believe, with the exception of having to pull the engine to replace turbos.

IMO both the NA and TT have their Pro's and Cons, but I would not consider reliability to be a major issue when choosing between them.

In general, if you buy a good one both the NA and TT are very reliable cars. More so than most other cars of similar age, they are a Nissan afterall. The Majority of Z32's are from 1990-1992, and you dont see many cars on the road that old these days.

Deep down, I am a boosty fan. I've had a couple of 200sx and had a boosted Primera too. I have a boosty car now aswell and for the smashing noises, I would generally prefer a TT. Not just one boosty joy, but two.

I know little about these. I take it they are two stage, one comes in primary then the other later up the revs?

I can just feel it in my bones that I'd buy a TT and have to replace both turbos within a week.

Is the tan leather an original option- looks different! My tweed needs replacing & this could be an option!

The 300zx uses two small turbos that come on boost at the same time. You get the benefit of quick spooling, but with the same power output as a single large turbo.

Each turbo feeds one side of the engine. The entire layout means that each 1500cc bank has its own turbocharger, intercooler, and exhaust system.

There are a LOT of bad examples out there. It really is a case of weeding through the trash to find the gems unfortunately. But find a good one, and look after it well and all is good :)

I have driven many Z's over the years that would of put me off them for life, if I did'nt know what a good example is like. My advise would be to test drive as many as you can, everyone will most likely feel very different to the next.

It was a 99spec option. The U.S also had a Tan option in the earlier years.

I've been told to steer clear of the TT models.

who the hell told you that!

If i bought a NA, i would always regret not buying the TT.

i think the car is too big to be NA

Cheers for that, I guess my own actions could be my downfall here, I'm quite a lazy buyer. I tend to spot exactly what I want and go and get it without looking at other stuff.

My theory was to avoid all the cheaper ones and try to pick out something very nice. You know occassionally a car pops up on a club where it's really well known the club and when it goes up for sale, everyone goes holy sheet, you can't sell that it's the best thing on four wheels etc. I figured if I just bought that sort of car, all would be well and save me trailing the country for cars I don't really want.

Oh the TT thing, a mechanic mate told me he's seen loads of TT through the garage with problems and another guy who knows Nissans really well told me to avoid also.

I've emailed the chap at zedworld about the black one, if it checks out, it's very very interesting indeed.

You just missed out on one such car - A Cobalt green 1996 300zx TT Manual, owned by steve300zx

However there are a few other special examples in the for sale section currently, depending on what you want.

Btw, I think the 99 NA in your original post is definatly worth considering. A 99spec is a very rare find indeed and it looks great in Black with the Tan leather.

  • Author

Can you point me to what you'd say were the special examples currently?

Only clauses are it must be manual, must have leather, must be 2+2 and must be targa tops!!

I know this car personally, and its a very tidy example

Very high spec, but may not be what your after

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=129424

Well known car that has had a lot spent on it

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=128701

There are a couple of Nice SWB's and a slicktop in the for sale section too, if you decided they do interest you.

I may have missed some out, either becuase Im not familiar with the car or simply forgotten/had'nt realised its for sale.

This was the car I mentioend before, unfortunatly it sold a few days ago, but gives you an idea

Thanks so much for the links, that is really helpful.

The yellow one is lovely but I 'm not digging those rims to be honest, I like the way it does look really clean though. Not tampered with, just straight.

I'm not into that big spec one though with the wing etc, deffo not me.

The white one however, is ticking me fancy. I'm liking the style of that rather a lot and although it's been played with a lot, it sounds like it's all good. I could well be interested in this one, rather a lot :-)

Interesting info from Zedworld on the black one:

Yes can confirm we used to look after that car, it is a Non Turbo Manual with an E.C.U upgrade, H.I.D fitted, It was serviced on a regular basis,

The last time it was here 15/06/09 mileage in km 156,262 oil & fuel filter changed.

M.O.T 07/02/09 nothing was picked up on this.

We have the full service history on our Data base.

The person who owned it before did not do a lot of miles.

If I was you try knocking them down to at least £5,500
