sorry to press further but what particularly don't you like about the S1?

im obviously going to say this as an S1 owner, but I personally think the S1 is the best in stock form (prefer the spoiler, prefer the aircon, got stock boost gauge, not fussed about HICAS method, not fussed about clear/orange lights - this is my own opinion folks on a stock S1 ;) ). and dont worry im not taking your preferences personally ;)

S1 and S2 has same spoiler, same hicas, same boost gauge, same clear/orange lights ;)

The difference is no tweed, you get Alcantara or suede panels instead.

You get seatbelts on the pillars instead of doors.

You get Improved Aircon system - Its the same digital aircon, but you have a direction button to control where airflow goes and 4 speeds instead of 3. Much better than the S1 unit. (popular upgrade for S1 owners)

S2 is an improvement on the S1.

Its the S3/S4 onwards where you get different spoiler, hicas, ecu, injectors, no Boost gauge, no VVT and when nissan started skimping on costs.

i wasn't comparing the S1 and the S2 ;) i wanted to know what was wrong with the S1!

He said he wanted an S2, but you said the S1 was best and listed lots of reasons, but what you listed is the same between S1 and S2.

Looks like you mistook the S3, S4 changes for the S2 changes, and you said the aircon is better, which is incorrect.

i said i preferred it, not that it was better! :smash: but having said that it looks like i was wrong about the aircon - which model had the giant twisty knob on it instead of the digital readout?

and ok ok the S1 AND S2 spoiler IN MY OPINION is the best.

^ did I say in my opinion :)

The Manual aircon, with twisty knob was standard for all Convertibles and was standard from 96 onwards when they made the Digital aircon an optional extra.

Some very early S1's also had the Manual controls.

There really is nothing to prefer the S1 over the S2 though. Unless you have an unhealthy obsession with tweed lol. I agree that there are possible reasons to prefer the S1/S2 over some of the later series cars though.

Personally while I would prefer a S2 to a S1 it would not be essential to me when looking for a car. The most noticable difference is the Interior material and that can be retrimmed.

So is mine an S3 or S4 its a 96 jdm NA LWB and has/had loads of tweed also got the manual air con and seatbelts on the pillars. Just bought an interior from a UK car so hoping the tweed is on its merry way

Your will be a Series 4. Unfortunatly nissan reverted back to tweed in later years, albeit in a more attractive black finish.
