Hi all!

Looking to buy a Z32 soon guys, apart from the power/insurance costs is there much difference between a UK/Import model?

Have been looking at a few but the UK models seem expensive compared to the Imports, obviously the UK are rarer (sp) but are they actually worth more £££'s?

Welcome to the Club mate :)

Not really any differences between the UK and JDM models. UK models are cheaper insurance in general however tend to suffer from bad rust issues. JDM models are a little more expensive to insure however have little issues in the way of rust. However if they have been in this country long enough there are a few bad ones and the same goes for UK versions, there are some very well looked after ones which will not be rusty. Just be diligent when buying.

My personal recommendation is go for a JDM version and as fresh an import as possible.

Cheers,

Isaac

welcome mate and there are no power differences between uk and jdm

Thanks guys, what would you expect to pay for a UK 91/92 standard car with say 100k on tHe clock but with full SH?

H

Welcome matey :) The JDM may be restricted to 112mph, easily sorted though and shouldn't put you off.

Forgot to say that the car is called the Fairlady Z in Japan and the 300ZX everywhere else. Don't let people tell you that the Fairlady is a "Special Edition" or "Rare" cos it isn't!

prices vary so much its not worth quoting a specific figure. anywhere between 2k and 5k.

Cheers yassa, vary yeah certainly.... prices seem to be more than book, thats why I was asking, wasn't expecting to pay more than 4k for a mint UK version though.

Tasty looking Zed you have there :)

Differences between UK and JDM are minor, mostly trim/option differences.

Insurances differences only really seem to be an affect for very young drivers. As you get older the difference is neglidgable if anything.

UK models should'nt command a higher price, its the JDM-only models like the SWB, Slicktop and Convertible that command the highest prices.

If your after a 2+2/LWB TT (most common version) then you have the option of UK or JDM. If insurance is'nt an issue then I would'nt deliberatly look for a UK or JDM car, but go purely on condition and other details.

If however your after any other version then its JDM only.

JDM versions came in 2+2(LWB) , 2+0(SWB), TT and NA. The rarer SWB also came in even rarer Slicktop(Lighter, more rigid chassis) and Convertible(summer cruising) roof options.

2+2(LWB) = Longer wheel base with a rear seat.

2+0(SWB) = Shorter wheel base, 2 seater.

Smoke and Rust are probably the most important points to be looking out for. Check for corrosion around the sills, in front of the rear wheels. UK models are most prone to this, suffering quite badly with age unfortunatly. Although JDM models are not immune it. Those that have been in the country for many years are just as prone, but typically a JDM looks like new underneath in comparison.

cheers, luckily insurance isn't a problem....as I am more on the mature side if you know what I mean. Always remember seeing the zeds when I was younger and always fancied one, along with a Porsche 928 but I think they are even more of a money pit than a Z32.

Welcome to the club mate......From experience prepare for a long search to find a decent one for good money.

My advice....Buy from the club (even though I didn't LOL)

Check any potential purchase carefully whether it be UK or JDM. There's plently of good and bad of both. Good luck with the search.

Welcome to the club mate. A fresh import will be in better condition to the same year of a UK spec. However, look at a few, dont just buy the first one you see, unless it stands out. Believe me, Good uk Specs do come up, and they can be as good as a jap spec. See a few, you will soon understand a good one and a bad one. Plus on a UK, it isnt restricted, and if your lucky you get electric and heated both front seats too.

Not being biased, if you get my drift.............

I have had long and sleepless nights thinking what i want to do, but i need to concentrate in putting the money into my convertable, and having 3 zeds to run ,insure and tax is costing toooo much.

From one newbie to another i can say that you have:

1) bought one of the best (if not one of the most loved) cars that you will ever own, and

2) joined one of the most friendly and helpful clubs that i have ever come across
