Now I've had a chance to look at the car properly and rectify some really silly faults (rear wiper parked at bottom of screen/ rev counter needle reading 2500 revs when engine is off/ tighten alternator belt to stop screeching etc...)

I did however notice that shortly after start up 10 mins of idling at 2000 + revs that there were wafts of blue smoke from the exhaust. First issue is the smoke, the second that the revs are sitting so high. The smoke went as quickly as it appeared - the oil is nice and clear and there is no smoke under heavy acceleration.

The hazard lights aren't working, I think the switch is u/s as it doesn't seem to latch - am I right in thinking you push it away to engage?

There is a slight hesitancy when blipping the throttle...the revs were all over the place when I slackened the screws on the TPS but there seemed little in the way of adjustment to be had. I noticed the throttle body actuators weren't moving simultaneously which I have now corrected...was this the right thing to do?

The air con isn't too effective - when I press 'auto' with the temp set to the lowest, the revs rise. I can't tell if the e/m clutch is kicking in by looking at it as the whole of the visible pulley etc seems to rotate regardless of any switch settings. I'm assuming that as the revs rise, the system must be pressurised enough to actuate the pressure switch as on other makes of vehicle? The connector caps look like they haven't been touched since the car was built, so if all the above seems to make sense, I will get a regas done?

my revs still rise even though there was no gas in the system

Not the best news I could have lol guess I'll have to try pressing inside of the valves to see if any pressures being retained.

They will still rise if you swich the air con on ,mine did with no gass ,still the same with gass

Can anyone help with the other issues? The hazard switch must be an easy one for someone to answer :hyper:

So you have smoke on warm up? Could be one of 2 things. Either valve stem oil seals are passing a bit of lube, or you're getting a bit of blow back through the pistons and it's sitting in the inlet manifold.

This seems to have disappeared now, I will have to monitor the situation with the car being new to me.

I still need advice on the other Q's if anyone can help:D

There is a latch on top which pushes back (towards the dash) to turn the hazard lights on, take your pods apart and have a look for any broken parts.

The revs indeed do raise, if there is no temp difference i would say to get re-gas your aircon

Have bought another switch for the hazards (to be delivered yet). The old one which I took apart had been messed with, the contacts weren't in their holder, and the latch assy was missing! I think I'm going to need spacers for the new switch to allow the travel to actuate the switch (screw columns are broken on the ends..)

New aerial, passenger door lock solenoid on order too. :)

Air con re-gassed by a local trader today - all working after just a recharge :hyper: I'm a little pessimistic so will give it a few days before putting the flags out. Result if it does last @ £55.00

The screw fittings moulded into the pod to hold the hazard switch can break easily. I tried fitting washers in place to fill the gap, in the end I had to get a new pod. Think they are about £20 for a new one.

I used a brown raw plug trimed to lenth to refit mine , then fill the exsisting hole with plastic filler and reddrill a new hole ,
