Now I've had a chance to look at the car properly and rectify some really silly faults (rear wiper parked at bottom of screen/ rev counter needle reading 2500 revs when engine is off/ tighten alternator belt to stop screeching etc...)
I did however notice that shortly after start up 10 mins of idling at 2000 + revs that there were wafts of blue smoke from the exhaust. First issue is the smoke, the second that the revs are sitting so high. The smoke went as quickly as it appeared - the oil is nice and clear and there is no smoke under heavy acceleration.
The hazard lights aren't working, I think the switch is u/s as it doesn't seem to latch - am I right in thinking you push it away to engage?
There is a slight hesitancy when blipping the throttle...the revs were all over the place when I slackened the screws on the TPS but there seemed little in the way of adjustment to be had. I noticed the throttle body actuators weren't moving simultaneously which I have now corrected...was this the right thing to do?
The air con isn't too effective - when I press 'auto' with the temp set to the lowest, the revs rise. I can't tell if the e/m clutch is kicking in by looking at it as the whole of the visible pulley etc seems to rotate regardless of any switch settings. I'm assuming that as the revs rise, the system must be pressurised enough to actuate the pressure switch as on other makes of vehicle? The connector caps look like they haven't been touched since the car was built, so if all the above seems to make sense, I will get a regas done?
