Usually a series 1 ptu, its not a sensor by the way it acts like a distributor and controls the signal to the spark plugs.

The series 1 ptu has heat sink fins, also has been a common fault by getting too hot, i take it your car starts when its cooled down?

Then i would suggest changing the ptu, should solve your problem. Ideally get a series 2 ptu. The ptu series has nothing to do with the car seiries by the way, its just an upgrade that most people do for more reliability
