Went out to fit the lights thismorning, was told simple plug and play which it does seem, i just need to put bullet crimps on my black (negative) wire.

 

But when i connect them all up, there is one wire left? Its the black wire from where i took the original light out, that was connected to the orginal negative.

This has kind of thrown me abit as i think it should all work when i change the crimps over to the correct ones. So can anyone inlighten me to what this is or what i should do with the wire?

You should'nt need to add any bullet crimps. The HID wires should have spade connectors on which slot right into the original headlight connector.

my original headlight converter that was plugged in was bullets tho? So i would need to change that one to a spade to fit the HID kit.

 

But that still leaves that one spare wire coming from the headlight unit?

If it has an extra earth attached to the negative wire then it sounds like Stella did the earth trick, so that both dipped and Main beam flash at the same time.

Its a black wire connected to the headlight unit.

 

When the orginal light was in......it was plugged as blue to red, black to black.

No ive disconnected those wires i removed the bulb with and only the blue wire came out the other black stayed in, so on the hid kit, i can connect the red to red, black to black(once i change the crimp) and i am still left with the other black wire loose from the headlight panel........?

 

Could get some pics tomorrow or something.

no bother cheers mate, will need to get a mirror to get a peak in and see where this black ones going, as it was used as a negative to the main wiring loom so surely it was just a postive feed and the the negative from the loom sent to earth.

Puzzled, defo need to re-crimp tho i believe.

ive just read an article on the aussie forum about the hid lights.

 

On there, there is a soloution for a jspec 2+2NA to get hid to work in low beam.

What they suggest to do is what appear to be done to my car. But the problem for me is im still left then with a spare wire, the negative from the bulb. 5 lose wire i have and i know that the 2reds go together so im left with 3 blacks.

anybody else with ideas before i start chopping wires tomorrow?

In principle it's really simple.

 

Replace the old bulb with the HID one. The +ve & -ve that went to the old bulb go to power the ballast. The output from the ballast plugs on to the HID bulb.

 

Voila. Light you can see with.

put some candles in jam jars, got to be better than the standard lights lol

Picture supplied and........ the black wire im holding is from the HID kit. The middle wire is the wire from inside the headlight-unit that i dont know what is connected to. The 3rd wire on the right is the wire from the main loom.

 

As you can see the wire from inside the headlight unit and the main loom are bullet crimps, but the postive feed from the main low is a spade, which is connected to the red wire from the hid kit.

 

What i think i need to do is, cut the main loom wire and attach a spade crimp to attach the hid kit negative to it in order for this to work, which leaves the wire (in the middle) from the headlight unit spare.

 

What you guys think now i have a picture of it all?

OK. It looks tricky but it is really quite straight forward.

 

What you've got is a UK-spec vehicle in which the headlight wiring loom consists of a red wire with spade connector and a black wire with a male bullet connector. Lets forget about the "other" black wire that comes directly out of the headlight unit for a second. In order to connect your HID bulb up CORRECTLY you will need to connect the two red wires together (as you've already done) and then connect the black wire coming off the HID bulb (with spade connector) with the black wire with the male bullet connector. You'll need to either construct a conversion lead (which is what I provide with all my HID kits; it's a female spade to female bullet connector conversion) or just cut off the male bullet connector and crimp on a female spade connector. JOB DONE.

 

Now the extra black wire (with bullet connector) coming out of the headlight: that was done so that the dip beam stays on when main beam is selected. This wire will originally have been connected to the other black wire (with bullet connector). If you look into the back of the headlight housing (using a mirror) you'll find that this wire is connected to a screw on the actual headlight bulb housing. It serves as an additional earthing point for the headlight. The Z32 headlights are so-called "earth switched" which is what changes the headlight from dip to main beam. What you can do with this additional wire is either remove it (although this may require complete removal of the entire headlight unit in order to get access to the back of the housing) or just cover the spade connector with some electrical tape so that there is no chance of it touching any metal. JOB DONE.

Ahhhhh, thats what i was thinking for connecting it, was very nervous tho to go and cut wires without confirmation.

At my fu**ing wits end with this........

 

Have cut the wire on the main loom to put the female spade on it.

 

This all connected up and the light didnt come on the first light setting then on second beam it made the noise...du dudu du and flickered......but it will not stay on.

 

So i gave up on the HIDs and went to see if my original bulb would work.....which it wouldnt. So ive snipped away part of the loom and tried to get it to work, now nothings happening and nothings working.

 

Very very very very pi$$ed off with this now im raging. Anybody dum this right down for me as i done want DTA said as i originally thought and all that done was create a noise and flicker.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you've followed the correct procedure with the wires/connectors. However, as was stated in the other thread you put up, the problem you are currently encountering could be due to (1) blown fuse or (2) low battery level. Normally, when you turn the HIDs on (ie, turn headlight knob to SECOND position) then the HID ballasts will emmit a high pitched noise (should be continuous and not intermittent). This noise eventually becomes so high pitched that you can't hear it. Flickering HID bulbs usually means a bad ballast or low battery power. As suggested, check over the headlight fuse and then make sure the battery is fully charged (check it with a volt meter if necessary). Then try turning the headlights on again.
