turbo questions

hi all. having read through all sorts of old threads - i am still unclear about the difference between an auto turbo and a manual one. can anyone help me out with 1. does an auto fit onto a manual car? 2. is there any difference in performance if this is done?. ie does one create more / less pressure at the same revs? . anyone know the answers ?

manual turbo's are slightly bigger and produce slightly more peak power. auto turbo's produce less power but spool quicker. im sure you can fit a manual to an auto or visa versa.

They are externally physically identical and will fit either engine. Its just the exhaust compressor side that differs internally.

On paper the Auto turbos make less power but spool up quicker. In reality your unlikey to notice any difference.

Well the official UK Nissan power figure for the Auto TT is 263hp, compared to the Manual 280hp. However the Auto engine also had Camshaft differences which would account for some of that.

if i may pick your brain once more please - am toying with the idea of ditching 1.the heavy air-con pump and 2. going for a light weight bottom pulley. any thoughts? am not looking at massive mods , just simple and effective. (already done the air flow in / out)

The Lightweight crank pulley is a great mod, you can notice the response/revving improvements.

The Aircon system weighs around 15kg in total (pump weighs about 10kg). Its not a huge saving on its own but it is as part of an overall weight saving plan. If its working and your not making any other big weight saving changes then its probably best to just keep it tbh.
