Hi people,

 

Just joined up and looking at buying a 300zx TT over the next 6 months or so. Will be reading all you guys posts and what to look out for etc.......

 

Currently have a Skyline which i will be keeping, but want a quick 300zx to sit alongside it :nana2:

Very nice mate i do like the skyline !! , so what you after a uk/or jdm ? manual i take it though ?

I take it that a UK spec will be cheaper to insure, But not too worried about that. I would ask what the performance and trim differents are if any, But i am sure a search would reveal the answers :)

Can't think of em’ all to hand off the top of my head though

 

j-spec has front fogs, uk does not (but has rear one's built in to back bumper , j spec's don’t have any rear fog as standard

 

J spec's are also limited to 112mph (from memory) until the restrictor is removed , and also the uk , spec has a larger auto oil cooler there are other small things 2, a uk spec as i'm sure you can guess though will be cheaper to insure also

 

but as joely points out lol, they have been here since the early 90's if it's a uk spec , so check and check again for rust , there are still good examples around and a few very nice examples up for grabs through here

Sounds a bit like Skylines, again they are limited to 112mph so need delimiting. Also pron to rust around arches.

 

So theres no power differents between the UK and J versions?? and most uprated parts fit both versions??

Only power diff , would be if limited as far as i'm aware , ie think the uk , spec's where limited to around 150mph , and as said jdm to 112mph,

 

and yep 100% agree best to buy from some one who knows the car and respect's it

erm are you sure the limiter is still fitted ?

welcome to the club... I had an R32 GTR and an R33 GTST last year - great cars but prefer driving a Z! :dance:

 

With regards to your questions, aftermarket parts will fit both UK & JDM, there is a massive difference in insurance quotes I've found, but as you get older they all become affordable :rofl:

 

You may have also seen that theres the LWB (2+2) or the SWB (2 seater).

I know insurance is not cheap as the skyline is insured with all mods declared, But im mid 30's now so its not so bad :)

Try a few because there are a number of dogs dinners about.

 

I've found 2+2 is more stable at really high speeds 120+ mph but the 2 seater, especially the slick tops to be much more of a sports car to drive.

 

Currently got a slick top that i enjoyed driving until work got in the way. If you find that the 2 seater is to you're liking i will be selling mine soon.

 

Brief breakdown:

 

Uk are all 2+2 with targa

Jap comes in 2+2, 2 seater with targa, 2 seater slicktop, convertible

 

Manuals seems to have less problems - requires aftermarket clutch with raised boost. Jap automatics have a habit of melting the internal electrics with a aftermarket oil cooler.

 

Engines are normally solid mechanically, electrical and ancilaries cause most of the problems associated with them.

 

Rust is mostly found in the rear arches, the usual - bubbles are bad etc.

 

All interiors on zeds are hideous.

 

The later mark you get the better. 1995 (autumn) onwards had better intake, fuel rail and injectors - makes upgrades cheaper. No hydralic hicas, which is the most elaborate pointless device a car has ever had.
