After 10 long, sometimes great, sometimes frustrating years of Z ownership, it's time to say goodbye

A coolant leak has prompted me to take my car to PhilZ for repair, plus an MOT. I usually get the MOT done a day or two before it's due, however, seeing as the car was going to the garage I may as well have it done a bit early.

It turns out that the coolant leak is just a split hose, but the problem is it has failed the MOT quite badly. Apparently, the sills are rusted rught through; I was completely unaware of any of this, as the body kit is hiding the corrosion from view.

I now have 3 weeks to get rid of the car - I'm frantically looking for good scrappage deals; but what I want and what I can afford are some distance apart. Hopefully, I can land something 'semi-respectable'; but I'm sure it won't bring me the driving pleasure and the fun and cameraderie I have received from being a member of 300zx.co.uk.

On the subject of this forum, I'd like to say thanks for all the help and friendship I have received over the years, from the following people:-

MAC1

Johnny

SRRAE

Duffman

PaulG

Topless

AdamR

Jez

Tooley

PhilZ

Kirbz

Bee Gee Vinz

Apologies if I've missed anyone off this list, there are so many people over the years, who have added much to my ownership of my Z.

.................

Cheers,

Dave W

nooooooo you cant get it scrapped.. especialy with all those bits on it.

PLEASE NO! i love those side skirts, theres got to be a better way?

dan.

Flaming hell mate. Surely the sills can be repaired or replaced???? I'm sure it would cost a few quid.

I would take it on as a project if it that was the case

breaker mate, not scrap. the pic of the car looks great, im sure you would get some coin for it easy.

seems a crying shame after all those years m8 but i can understand there comes a time where you have to cut your losses and after 10yrs of fun im sure you know what you are doing.......

Would be a shame to see you leave the site after all that time, Agreed though got to be worth it to strip for parts rarther than scrap if you can ?

Sorry to hear the bad news but surely its worth saving!!

But if you break her ill be interested in some parts

I will buy some parts off the car from you mate?

Would take the front bumper?

hey mate. If i was you....i would declare it as sorn and sell the parts.

Sorry to see it going to the scrap yard there Dave - farewell to a once nice Z IMO:cry:

I had to remove the "potential project" bit though mate -we're pretty hot on forum rules nowadays.

Anyway, it seems a few people are already circling round looking for parts to scavenge so it may be worth your while to subscribe again and break it. I reckon you'll have no problem making some decent cash on a few desirable bits.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

sorry to hear that dave, was the best zed on here for quite a long time

I am really sorry to hear this Dave I know I have not spoken to you for some time but I do remember the good times we had with these fantastic and sometimes troublesome cars the JAE meets the North West and North East meets bring back some great memory's for me.You have a fantastic Z in its own riight and still the newest UK car I have ever seen. Mine is in for another respray at the moment as it was last painted back in 2001 and does have a few chips and an odd dent that needs sorting. I wish you all the best for the future Dave and I can say in all honesty you were one of the most genuine guys I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Mods please keep this thread open for now thanks.

You cant kill a car because of rotten sills, is that all or are there other things on the fail list ??

that zed is by far to nice looking to be scrapped, just look at it!!

Dont scrap it!

I've never had the pleasure of meeting you Dave however i've spotted you about a few times :) Its really sad that after such a long time its necessary to break such a nice car up.

Thanks for your kind words guys. it's great to hear from MAC1, Tooley and Kirbz in particular.

Thanks also to the mods (manumac?) for re-opening this post, as I said, this is a thank you/tribute to the people/forum above all.

The pic I posted was how I would like my Z to be remembered, things have changed a bit since then. The painwork has oxidised badly and the rims need a refurb.

Anyway, yesterday I got a great scrappage deal from Audi (almost 4K) on a new A4 2.0 tdi s-line exec (at least the range of Z's sold was a bit easier to understand!). The only problem is, the car won't be ready until October! I'll have to be extra nice to Mrs W and borrow her car for now!

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave, I remember well you being here loads when I first started coming here, and I'm sorry to hear that it has come to an end like this. I also have quite a few problems very similar to yours, but I'm going to soldier on with it :D

All the best bud with your new wheels
