Hi everyone,

Thought i would just stick a quick note and say hi to everyone!!

I am currently looking to change my car to some kind of sports car and basically want as much information as i can about the car i am thinking about, which is a 300zx twin turbo.

Might seem a bit strange joining before buying one, but in March of next year i will be doing a trip of about 8,000miles in the matter of 10 days, and im saying 8,000miles as the minimum i think i will do. so basically if anyone has any advise on things to look out for on these which could cause a problem doing that many miles in such a short space of time i would like to be told in advance really.

I am currently 19 which does sound young i know, but lucky for me i have a nice little job, the insurance quotes i have had on the 2 i have test drove is coming in at £2680. which i think i can live with (just).

The only other question i really have is MPG, i got to admit i am not too bothered about this, but it would be nice just to have a rough idea in my head.

So like i said before, Hi and thanks for any advise you can give me!!:)

£2,680? being 10 years older has its advantage I guess. I pay 1/10th of that!

Surely you can get it cheaper than that mate. There are a few people here that got zeds at your age.

Thats alot of miles in few days, what on earth are you doing??

Oh and welcome to the club :)

Isaac

Hi mate.

Ive had 2 zeds and insured them while only 20 and i am only paying about £800 fully comp. Try elephant mate they where the best for me and normally come up pritty good. MPG i would say around 22-25ish but if your flooring it you can cut that number.

A journey like that in a zed will be testing and if you get one i look forward to hear how well the car copes with it.

Just make sure you buy one with a solid engine, no knocks rattles etc. Ensure the oil level is sitting healthy and that when you are on boost the needle goes all the way round.

Ensure the bodywork is solid, check the sills around the inside of rear lights etc.

Jap imports are normally the best for rust free but there are some nice examples of UK models out there.

Welcome Mate!

Craig

Good luck with the search, just remember you get what you pay for and big glass fibre bodykits are banned by the style police.

with your trip your going to have to average 80mph for 10 hours a day to make it almost do'able at that you could expect mid 20's from a TT depending on how well you can maintain speed. If you drop to 50-60 you might eek 30mpg from it (if its a good one)

which means at say filling from reserve 15 gallons ish (66 litres) thats £70 a tank in uk prices for high octane VERY IMPORTANT which is 375 miles a tank(at 25mpg), so 2 a day at least. Going to be an expensive 10 days!

I work it out to around £1500 in juice!

welcome to the club mate - there are plenty of insurance threads around here where you should be able to find a much better deal! good luck

cheers for the info guys, i got to admit im happy to pay that insurance, but if you guys say i can get it cheeper i will defo be looking, the MPG you guys are saying are higher than i was expecting, so that a positive.

As for the mileage, i am doing a tour around Europe, my girlfriend and i plan to do it before we move to Auz in 18 months time. So should be different to say the least. as for the money/ fuel i have looked into that, were going to take aroung £3k to do it, so we should have enough for the fuel, we got £2k set aside for fuel alone.

One more thing which may please you all, i only buy cars i love the look of when there standard so i wont be modifying them!! Doubt ill have enough money to anyway!!! haha.

Cheers for the Nice welcome messages as well, member of 3 other clubs of cars i have had, and they ent been as much help as you guys, so thanks again!!

Welcome, My insurance at 20 was £1300 with elephant for 10 months :)

Some good news, some bad, i tried with elephant for insurance and i got a message saying :- We are unable to provide a quote for you because of the following reasons:

Sorry, we cannot insure this car for you, all drivers must be over 21!

:(, however using parkers search engine i have got a quote of just £1600, so theres another £1000 for the holiday now, best of all, its with quick fit with a special offer of a free MOT, cant be bad!! cheers for the advise again guys!!
