Hi,

My new PC main board (Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H) has a HDMI connector on the back panel. Should I be able to just plug a cable into that and then into my TV and get my PC screen on my TV?

I've tried it and get nothing :(

you might have to change something in display settings in control panel to HDMI, i have a similar set up and remember when i first started with it had to mess around to get sound to come through the TV speakers.

i cant remember exactly what to do but might be worth a look.

Problem with the screen is on my TV, all the edges are missing. I think it might be down to my PC screen being a normal 4:3 ration and my TV being widescreen and I have it as cloned rather than dual view, as I want it to just be exactly the same on both screens.

Got the sound to work through the normnal TV speakers but not through my surround sound which is connected to the TV via scart

Yeah similar here too, I have a DVi out to HDMI, but the sound is a separate cable into the correct point on the TV, but I then can not get that sound through my surround sound amp, the only way will be for me to have the sound cable go to the amp direct. Obviously this wont work for you if your sound is coming down your HDMI lead, don't know how you'll be able to get around this unless you have a setting within your TV menu?

Does the mb send the sound signals through the hdmi? It may just be sending video signals ala-DVI. Normally (older systems that is!) the sound signals will come directly from your soundcard or mb and be completely separate to video. Have a look in the computers BIOS program you may have an option to divert sound to hdmi. Failing that, its as Dave has said, which is the way I've had to do it as well.

I'll just go back to the old way which was to split the 3.5mm jack into 2 out of the soundcard, one to the PC speakers and one to the surround sound amp of my TV.

Might contact Panasonic as there must be a way of doing it. I have a camera on my front door connected to the TV and the surround amp picks up the sound from that (all conected by scart)

your sound card/MB should have some sort of software that will choose to send the sound through the HDMI port if it can do this (my card doesn't) also if your missing part of the display your in the wrong res i have an ati card and have my monitor at 1024x768 and my plasma at 1080p at the same time through ATI catalyst and picture is brilliant

if you pc has hdmi then it will be able to process sound through it, if you right click on the sound icon and click on playback devices, you should then be able to select the hdmi and set it to default device, you should then get sound :)

with regards to cutting the screen if you go into your graphics card and select to copy the pc screen then you should be ok

I've disconnected it cos evertime the PC comes back from screensaver, it switches the TV channel!!!!!!!!!!

Totally right, there's an option to change the sound to HDMI but it cuts the sound to the PC speakers :(

The option to copy the screen (cloned) is on but still cuts the edges
