Hi guys, I need help, im really quote upset with this!!!

Car has been off the road for quite a while as it needed a couple of parts. The parts changed were both turbos oil return pipes and the drivers side oil feed pipe. Also a new O2 sensor on the passenger side.

Went to get the car today and all seemed fine, car driving okay etc. On the way home I spent about 2 hours stuck in stop start traffic. The car then started to seem like it was struggling... revs going up and down around200 - 300 revs and running like a pile of crap, had to keep a bit of gas on so it didn't cut out in the traffic jam. When accelarating or even being in neutral and reving up it struggles really bad between 2 & 3000 revs. This obviously made driving on the motorway hard so took it very slow (not that I had much choice). If I manage to get it over 3k revs it would pick up again. Anyway managed to get it back to the northeast (middlesborough) to my basketball practice. Came out 2 hours later, got in and started the car and all seemed fine again. Drove home (about 30 - 40 minutes) and it started doing it again once fully heated up (was only along the road from home). Got to my house and went to open the garden gates and the cars revs were dropping again to like 2 - 300 revs and then cut out. When I try to start it again I couldnt, it just coughs and coughs. What the hell can be wrong with it now? Overfueling maybe? Possily something else? Really need help before I take a hammer to it as im ready to snap like.:(

Sounds similar symptoms to mine after it had been off the road for 2 years mate! Mine was starting very poorly, and basically missfiring, and we just couldn't work out why - I ended up changing the battery because it died just before I had to take the car to the bodyshop - The car ran perfectly for about 20 miles, until I'd got it literally around the corner form the bodyshop where it started to missfire again. I then suspected the alternator - but apparently (so I've been told today, as I'm picking the car up tomorrow!) according to the multimeter, the alternator is charging the battery! I still think it could be an intermittent fault and possibly regulator related, and I will be keeping a close eye on it! In short, my problem is definitely electrical voltage related, so I think the battery/alternator would be a good place for you to start. Other than that, the usual suspect - ptu - but it just sounds so similar to my problem, especially as your car's been off the road for a while, too! Let me know how you get on, mate, as anything you find may help me, too ;) I'll do the same for you!

Cheers,

Simon

Battery is fairly new and that wouldn't have started making it misfired while driving, plus it has laods of charge. The car has been on and off the road mate.

It is a series 1 PTU like

My engine was idling erratically and would cut out when at warmed up. It had also started vibrating. I relocated the s1 PTU to the inner wing next to the battery and changed it for a known good s1 ptu. The engine now runs sweetly apart from some smoke from exhaust, which is looking like duff pcv valves.

As said above though, it's worth checking the afm, if the wire isn't broken then a quick spray with some contact cleaner should help.

yeah, come to mine tomorrow, i have a afm sitting on my spare room window sill, not sire where it came feom or if it even works, if it does i will take £70 for it, if not i will have it nback

im very busy tomorrow, so best time would be about 12ish, you stil got same number????, will text ya if any change

could be mapping as well, have you had it fully mapped yet or just a run in map?

Sure its not just a boost leak, I have spare afm, cas ignition amp etc

I have a AFM now, its not a boost leak (sadly).

When cold the car boosts etc fine, its only after a long run really.

A/F Ratio seems to be staying Lean if that makes much odds, stays that way even when I rev it

fpr or fuel delivery problem, blocked filter/ pump on the way out ?

the alf should sweep when revs held above 2k once warmed up set datascan to read both o2 sensors so you can compare. they usually stay rich until warm.

Just a quick check matey, clean the connection on the water temp sensor which also controls your electric fan, if this is dirty or the sensor has failed, it gives the symptons you are experiencing.(Its the left hand sensor in the water pipe coming out of the front of the block)

I checked that straight away bud... Should have said but as its a new engine its all spotless.

I have fixed it now though... I think!

Turned out to be the MAF, replaced it and had no problems... Yet
