whats so good about the tesco octane...is it not basically the same as vpower?

A Helpful Link, thanks Dan.

Yes, same octane (99ron) as Vpower. Both very suitable for the Z and both can be hard to find.

There are also links to find nearest Vpower Shell stations.

Regular unleaded is 95 octane, and Super unleaded is 97 octane.

BP Ultimate do a 102 ron version but it is at very vew petrol stations and is very expensive. It does not offer any advantages over Vpower/Tesco99 without custom remapping.

does it make much difference in fuel types?? as i put the cheap one in, just standard unleaded, but if its worth paying the extra for any benifits then i will do?

See the thing is......i put the higher octane in my car but then..........these cars where built to run on unleaded so why not just put that in. I understand this petrol helps the engine etc etc bla bla.

But way i see it they where built and still perform to run on unleaded?

lol i put unleaded in cus its cheap. i think vpower is supoosed to be good for long motorway journeys from what i have read .. but otherwise.....

It's been commented on a few times that 97 ron , is best for J-spec Z's , due to the fact that Japan do not have the same octane rating's as us, hence there mapped for slightly higher rated fuel or at least that's the way i understood it ??

I've heard allot of people say they have used 95 ron, with no issues in a standard Jap Z though

Chris :)

Personally, I wouldn't use Tesco fuel due to the ethanol that they add.

Biofuels

We are already the UK market leader in biofuels and during 2007 we aim to double the proportion we sell. This means that customers will be able to buy a 5% bioethanol mix at over 300 petrol stations in the UK. This helps our customers reduce their emissions, as a car driven with our bioethanol mix petrol is responsible for 4.5% less CO2. We were the UK's first major retailer to incorporate biofuel into our standard petrol and diesel, with no price premium.

From Greenenergy, makers of Tesco fuel:

"Tesco 99 Octane contains bioethanol – a renewable component with 135 octane. So if you are choosing a super fuel, you still do a little bit for the environment."

"Ethanol including bioethanol - %(v/v) - 5.0"

Yes it does make a difference. Less chance of DET, especilly if your boost is turned up!

Its true that UK cars were, but but Imports were mapped to run on higher octane fuel.

Some are ok, running on Unleaded but you will still notice lower performance, but more importantly some will detonate and go into safety mode with regular unleaded.

Even on a stock car that runs fine on Regular Unleaded I would run Higher octane fuel as despite the small extra cost you get more MPG and better performance.

If the car is Chipped and running higher boost then its even more important to run Higher octane fuel.

so the higher the octane helps the enviroment so they charge you more for it cause your choosing that over normal unleaded and trying to help the enviroment. idiots!

but i suppose if it stops my car engine blowing up i dont mind paying the extra, i dont car about the enviroment and being green as its a load of boll*x

Same mate, it rots your injectors i was told!

Totaly agree I am sure this is what caused one of my injectors to fail. Won't go near it any more even though it's just round the corner and much cheaper!

Been using Tesco super unleaded (99ron) for the three years i've owned a zed. Never had a problem and it's always given me decent economy. I guess i'll keep using it until i ever get an issue.

There aren't any shell garages near me that have V-Power anyway.

Increased Ethanol is bad for the early style Z32 Injectors. Its fine for the Later Injectors 94+

standard jap and uk cars can run on 95. Increase the boost you will need higher octane as Dett becomes the issue as Si said.
