I think you will find that you can still declare SORN by filling in the SORN application (available on line through DVLA). Not foubting the system has its flaws, but it is designed to stop people from getting ripped off by buying a stolen car. If there was no log book, how did you check the car details and above all, that it was his to sell in the first place? Having bought a stolen VW Beetle some years ago I got a little pissed off when the police turned up and towed it away to give it back to the rightful owner. This one had a log book and although the registration matched, the chassis and engine details were completely different. Luckily it only cost me a few hundred quid but I certainly learned my lesson. If the guy you bought it off is genuine I'm sure he won't mind applying for the log book. This way it takes about 14 days to come through.

Apparently, he bought it without a logbook and the original seller is unable/unwilling to do anything.

As to checking its legitimacy, i used dvla, + a mobile data check.

Thought that was good enough.Mmmnbugga.

Think I would be checking this one out very carefully. You might be lucky and just find that the two previous owners have been a bit lazy and not bothered. I should apply for the log book asap.

goto the dvla office with all your paper work mot, insurance, they will tell you what form to use and can replace the form and tax the car while you wait i did it on mine this year
