I can't remember the exact form number but i think you will need to fill out a V10 form and present that along with your insurance certificate and your mot certificate.

Its been a little while since i have had to dick about taxing cars without v5's etc so i can't be sure, but i'm pretty sure thats the way you have to go about it.

There is even a possibility you'll have to have a quick trip to your local DVLA office.

HTH,

Isaac

It's changed you need to apply and obtain the logbook, only when you have that can you tax it. That's what happened to me last year when getting the Z on the road.

So is going to the Local DVLA office no longer an option???

No, only a logbook or slip from the bottom of it when you buy it will do.

That is outrageous!!!!!

So you have to wait for the DVLA to pull their fvckin fingers out of their bums and process the V5 and only then you can tax your car. That means you will have a car sitting there that you can literally do fvck all with!

Words fail me :(

Thanks guys.

A particularly large thankyou to dvla, for 'allowing ' me the freedom of a bicycle. At least until hell freezes over/logbook arrives.D'oh.

That is outrageous!!!!!

I thought of a few while the car was sat there with insurance and a shiny new MOT while I waited for a logbook

Caveat Emptor.

If you buy a car and complete the transaction knowing there is no log book then it falls to the buyer to sort it out.

Fill a form out pay the fee and await logbook.

Thats not really my point Pete - fair enough you have to bend over and take it up the arse but my point is it should not be that way!! There should be a way to tax your vehicle under certain circumstances - there is no give in the above what-so-ever. IMHO that is wrong.

Wellll. Yes.I do apologize for being ignorant of that point

All seems to have all changed since i last did this years ago, hence not being worried abut it.

But in the day of being able to call/text+ email instantly from a mobile + tax + insure anything in a moment from anywhere online.

i now have to sit and wait for postman pat to deliver it, some civil servant type to pull it out from under his coffee mug + fill in my details, wait for it to be posted, wait for pat again....then tax it.

What possible reason is there that i cant go to a post office, with id+ declare'yes-its mine, heres the form, now please tax it'

Fecks sake. even in aus you show up at the local office show them ID + pay+ drive your legal vehicle straight off.

Meanwhile i will get a lift into work in a polish registered car, with no uk road fund licence on it.ho hum.I'm just trying to keep myself legal, seems to be getting hard nowadays.

rant rant boil bubble. :headvswal :headvswal

It will take an eternity to get the log book as they will need to write to the person named on the log book fo verify they have sold it to you. If you know the guy, it is easier to pay him to apply for it as it is just a reissue in his name. Then he can send it to you so you can tax it with the tear off slip.

They brought in this new routine as too many people were not taxing cars and then there was a dispute over who was liable for back tax.

i know someone who bought a car about 9 months ago and filled in all the form to be sent away has got the little tear off bit but no log book to date from the dvla! me thinks the seller didnt send off the form, he hasnt chased it up and the car is off the road still will he be stuffed when it comes time to tax it?
