I've almost finished my manwell conversion, woohoo! But... Does anyone know where to connect the neutral switch on the gearbox to? I've read that you can leave it disconnected, but if it should go somewhere, I'll do it....

Cheers....

Hi Bud

You can leave it disconnected, but if you look in the faq section there is a write up on just that subject.

cheers

Cheers, i'll have a look for a some info, but the switch is actually on the manual box it's self... I have found 2 write ups on the wiring for the conversion, but they both say they don't know where it goes to!

Everything else is connected and done, but cos it's actually on the box, I'm thinking it must go somewhere.....

Nah mate, there's the speed sensor, the reverse switch, and the neutral switch, three plugs from the box, the other two are sorted, think I'll just leave it off, may be the cut out for the starter, so you can't start it in gear? Wont be doing that anyways :-)

The neutral switch is for manuals only and what it does it is signal the ECU when you are in neutral which then retards the timing by 10 degrees. If you disconnect the switch, the ECU will presume you are always in gear and keep the 10 degrees. Only means that the car will idle slightly higher (100(ish)rpm) when at a stand still and in neutral. Not the end of the world :)

This must be taken into account when setting base idle and timing.

You can earth pin 47 at the main ECU when doing this....that is all the neutral switch does.

Or use consult/datascan to retard timing by 10degrees to set base idle.
