Picked it up yesterday, drove it back to Essex in the pouring rain (no leaks, just a couple of small sideways moments) and I'm LOVING it!!

Spent today after work redoing the front seats, there is some other changes I want to make, little bits that need attention asap (nothing major) but I wanted a "project car"

First thing will be a good clean, inside and out, then I'll start with the little jobs that need doing, get the underside, wheel arches scrubbed and sealed for the winter then I think the suspension may receive some attention...........

Well here she is, Big thanks to Chris for his time, advice and car ;)

Glad you're enjoying the 300zx experience , lol, what other plans you got then?

you having the seats re-trimmed?

  • Author

other plans?

mostly suspension stuff to begin with, the body work I'm going to do myself over time, few performance mods, need to ditch the single exit exhaust though. As awesome as it was through the Dartford Tunnel, my head was starting to hurt by the time I got home. A nice twin exit, with a deep rumble i think would go down a treat.

Yep i like the sound of that ! i prefer he look of a twin or quad sys anyways ,

there's some decent threads floating around on suspension options also mate

I actually like the front bumper so it'll be getting repaired, each to their own though. I have been making use of the search facility, found out loads of stuff which has been useful already.

Nice car.

Make sure when you get suspension parts that they are not for a LWB - the front is ok but the rear of the car is lighter and has a different spring rating on the SWB.

BTW a 30mm drop will give exactly 1 degree more of camber on each corner - perfect in my book. And don't go too much harder than standard springs or you will spend a bit of time facing the wrong way at high speed.

Enjoy, I've had mine 5 years and still get excited every time.

nice to see you got the recaro's in mate they look great. was nice to see you and the car last night.

As far as the suspension goes, the front top mounts appear to be made of machined metal, possibly ali, i don't think they are standard so who knows what may be lurking there.

I think the ride is just right as it is TBH, could do with dropping down a bit, I can put my fist in between the wheel and the arch.........

Thanks Stu, took me about 4 hours to clean them, fit the subframes (I had to cut some bolts down to fit) and them fit them into the car. No big problems, just lots of little things, the main one being the recaro sub frames having no captive nut to bolt the seat belt ancor to and the bolt being a weird thread making it almost impossible to fine a nut that fitted, but good old dad had a couple knocking about in a bit's tin :)

Was good to see you all last night, and to get a better look at yours and Pauls cars

I take mine to the Ring just to annoy the porker drivers so have a more track based set up.

Camber is good on the track but can be a bit sketchy over cambers when braking on the road.

Woohoo......... Uno's shortie. Lovely motor, even driven it myself, will be an animal. great sound. Plus it has my old wheels on...........

And in the best colour.

Did you get the skirts ????

  • Author

I was going to get the parts needed to make the camber fully adjustable, and maybe even stretch to coilovers to. Definately going to ditch the HICAS though.

And in the best colour.

Really ?...looks black to me

Shame about the front bumper, but I like the car itself. Good luck with it all. :duffer:

Glad you're ditching the single can. Can't stand the single exit exhausts and they don't sound anywhere near as the nice deep 'v' rumble you get from twins.

I did indeed get the skirts............... Will probably put them back on relatively soon :D

Nooooo! Get some nice skirts and fit those. :)

The single exhaust still sounds "v" if that makes sense, but it just sounds a bit tinny at higher revs.

Skirts and front bumper to go on and be repaired respectively. Car will be resprayed, not 100% decided on what colour/style at the moment though.
