I want to do this to mine(illuminate it that is) where do you get the light panels from and do you have a how to do it guide or owt? Are you also spraying the reveals around the lights crome like the 99 spec ones? at least you got something to keep youself busy while looking for a panel replacement. should be plenty of them around put an ad up in the wanted section

Been there done that :smash:lol just when you think its ready to come apart.........................................crack:xxx:

Hi 8ace, I asked a question on a thread a few nights ago, and a few of the lads are doing one at the mo! I will dig it out and post it in a few mins, also i have ordered from Usa the panel to illuminate it, only about £25 delivered!! will post all in a few mins, my internet is really slow tonight. Daz ;-)

Illuminated panel ,Ebay item number Item number: 380133436988

(STU`S POST)

It can be done, i used a hairdryer, and gently went round the entire edge of the panel, easing them apart using a flat scrapper, it it dosent come undone, its not ready.

Have a look at my previous thread. I have found a UK supplier, to include an

A4 size of el sheet, which has to be cut down, a 12v convertor.

Will work out at less than £40 all in.

There is also a link to TT.net, will look for it and post it up.

I`ve just found out why it cracked!!! There are 4 small screws that are hidden ,covered with a plastic blob, they are located at the 2 top corners and one above the start of the X and 1 at the middle of the 3, all along the top of the panel, hope that makes sense? if you look carefully you can see them, they will pull out with pliars before using the hairdryer.

Quick update!! I`ve just recieved my red light up strip for the rear panel conversion.

Seems really easy from here now, just stick the strip on the rear of the panel, connect to the lighting circuit and hey presto, a light up centre panel for £25 and a bit of time and sweat , easy stuff.

But take your time as i cracked the first one!!

Daz.

Interesting. I'd put some tint over the new light itself as it's currently too bright and you're getting illumination outside of the 300zx logo.

  • Author

Good idea Bud, I have some spare window tint in my lock up, That should do it ;)

Just out of interest, how bright are those things in person? Also, how thin are they? Just thinking if they were sat behind the main light defuser, they'd be better than LEDs.

The EL strips are card thin, so need packing out with a foam strip. As for blacking it out, be careful, and test what you use as a spray could affect the original black paint and react with it.... and that would be the end of another panel!

Just as a quick test with my psp, the brightness is best compared to an LCD screen, This pic was taken in a semi dark room. The thinckness is about half a millimeter, the power unit is the size of a box of matches.

My thoughts were also to get some more strips and use behind the main rear lights, should look good :)
