Hi team!

From what I have read on other forums it seems very possible to remove the EGR whilst the engine is in and whilst the Plenum is off - helps a lot as well.

My question is: I have no desire or wish to drop the tranny or do do any major removal beyond where I am at now; so I need a backup plan.

Removing the two EGR pipes to the base of the plenum looks easy enough, if I can get the two/three bolts out that hold the actual EGR unit to the engine - thats good - but what if I can't remove the connection to the exhaust manifold?

What are my options at that point?

I have made blanks to cover the plenum connections so need a plan 'B' in case thats as far as I get with removal?

Hope that makes sense.

Many thanks in advance. :mac1:

very interested in this as well. i will also be removing my auto box to put in manual so is this a good time to sort this aswell

The exhaust pipe removal.

I removed the down pipe and used a hack saw to cut off the pipe. Then used a blank that i got with the 300 degree egr delete kit. I didn’t have the plenum off so the egr and some of the pipes are in situ but completely bypassed.

Thanks Paul - That's my Pan 'B' ;-))

Also doing the PCV re-route now as well - jeeeez.

I cut the pipe on mine to be able to remove the nut that holds it , it has a flare on the end so it,s the only way of removing the nut and for a blanking plug i used a 5pence piece as it was the perfect size , Drop it in the hole and tighten the nut down onto it , job done. !! HTH

If you got the plenum off then it should be straight forward to remove the EGR to Plenum pipe work from the EGR valve (4 Bolts). If i was doing it i would leave the EGR bolted to the inlet manifold so its solid and drench both ends of the EGR to Exhaust Manifold pipe in Plus gas (Dismantling lub). the EGR side should be straight forward but you might have trouble with the exhaust side if it is completely rusted in.

Plan 'B' would be to cut this pipe close to the EGR valve (only thin wall) then crimp it over.

to remove the pipe to the manifold I cut it close to the fitting then got a socket over the end, came off with a bit of force.

just a note on the 5p. I did this with mine also but make sure you're careful as i manged to crack the coin with the heat and tension and then it rattled loose. I cured it by removing the bolt and pool welding the hole (with 5p still in place). I also used 5p's pool welded in to adapt the original plenum mounts after cutting and grinding the plates flat.
