I am looking at buying a SWB Manual off a friend ho imports jap cars. He has run it himself for a year because he loves it but wants a Skyline (due to luggage space). He wants £5995 for it, sound like a fair price for a SWB Man 90 on an H? It seems to be running VERY rich, petrol smell from exhausts on startup but no smoke, seems to be slightly sluggish as well (not normal 300ZX g's on right foot application! Also the speedo seems to over-read by about 25% and apparently the 4 wheel steering also thinks the car is going faster than it is?

I am puzzled and a tad worried about buying it.

Any suggestions on cures would be very helpful, also advice on SWB Manuals if anyone has any.

Many Thanks

Paul.

OK not too sure what you mean by some of your post but ...

The Short answer to fixing your Speedo and HICAS problem is to check the Speed Sensor and the Speedo and fix / replace the offending item, It might have been a Dodgy KM to M conversion, Read the threads below on RE: Speedo conversions to give you an idea where to look.

Check the MAS is OK, and check the ECU for Error codes to try and find a place to start looking for the Mixture problem. I would fancy there to be something showing up there.

Might be that it is a good deal, you didn't mention the milage on the car tho.

Firstly, what is the mileage? The speedo problem sounds like it is due to a speedo conversion failure (km - mph) or it could be wired incorrectly. The conversion should NOT interfere with HICAS or power steering so my guess is they have fited it incorrectly. The rich running could be a wide variety of things. Get it checked out by a mechanic who specialises in the Z.

Don't buy until these things are sorted!

Hope this helps

Andy

Just to add to details, sorry I didn't include them in yesterdays posting.

Has 82,000 KM on clock of which 20k is his but looks like it's always had a turbo timer on it and hasn't been modified in any way.

The car still has a KM speedo and to the best of both our knowledge hasn't had any attempt to change it. It is still limited to 110 mph. The ecu was checked at Nissan and had no fault codes registered.

Does anyone know if there is a Snapon (SUN) scanner module that will work with the 300zx?

Thank you all for your help and reponse.

Paul

Too much fuel, do the O2 sensor test on it... better still get the Nissan console test run on the car...
