possibly a stupid question but is it ok to permanently remove the inner arch liner (specifically the front ones) - reason i ask is that after my larger wheels went on, there can be a slight bit of rubbing between the nearside tyre and one of the screws when im going over a bump in a particular direction.

 

are there any potential drawbacks to not having the liner on - e.g. unprotected components?

If its just a screw can you not modify it some how or remove it? If you take the liner out, road dirt and water will get flung up into all the recess you never knew about let alone clean out, and this time next year after 1 winter you'll have a rotten car.

 

My advise is to sort it properly and modify the fixings somehow.

Its quite common to have to trim the liner a little and/or remove a screw or two. (you may also have the wrong screws fitted which does not sit flush enough with the liner).

 

Should'nt need to actually remove entire liner, I would'nt reccomend it, and its also noticable and looks terrible.

just let the tire rub down the affected area and once gone it wont rub plus you still retain the liner;)

Dave ive gone lower again lol!!! so my front wheels and rears are flush.

 

On the rears with the 275 on i have had to grind the rear arches back a little and then re seal.

 

As for the fronts I have had to remove the 2 first screws. But it would still rub on the screw mounting points. So i covered them with a towel and taped them back so it is almost flush with the wing. By doing this it gets them out of the way and it will also force up the liner out of the way :)

its probably the other way round mate :( the screw will be rubbing down the tyre! ive just removed one screw from each side which I think is the culprit, so I'll see if that makes a difference. if not Ill replace them and remove another pair!

For the front linners.......

I removed the washer bottle, c.c., expansion tank, to allow full flow to the smics and cut away the outer front section of the linner so the airflow for the smics can flow freely through and then onto the braking area. Had no issues so far, and it has been approx. 1 year now.
