Hi, guy near me has a tatty uk manual zed, solid but with a few small dents here and there.

Thing is, he's offered it to me + then said "oh yes, did tell you it runs on the latest system lpg didnt i? " + has says he has no aggro with it.

Now he wants £2500 ish, anyone know any other sucessful zed conversions, or where to get info, or advise from?

opinions? :(

The trouble is i dont know if its worth the Money?

hard to say at the moment i suppose, depends if you need another zed and want an economical one, has it done mega miles? Any mods? What year?

I don't know if its worth £2500. A Tatty UK Zed? I would think at the minute you could buy a nicer example for that price. Depends on how important the LPG part is to you. For me it wouldn't make the slightest difference as I didn't buy it to be economical. It might even put me off because you never know if the job has been done really well.

Check it out really well, because the UK Zed can have a lot of hidden rot, I know an import can too, but it is much less likely. See some of the repairs threads on this site for examples.

I personally would look for a good fresh as possible import.

im just still smarting from what i paid for mine, what i spent on it and what i sold it for lol

2.5k sounds a bargain!

Sounds ok if all is genuine and the seller is not hiding anything. Mostly people do not sell good running LPG vehicles they hold on to them. Never seen a LPG Z and when I asked at my LPG fitters they said previously that Z'a would be too much hassle with how tight the engine bay is and had concerns over running the engine hotter.

Consider that if you have any problems with the LPG system, stuck/ clicking injector, piston rings etc. etc. how much will it cost. Ask the garage that fitted the system some questions, make sure its got a certificate with the system make sure there is nothing else wrong with the car that is the reaql reason for the seller offloading it now. Find out what LPG system is being used too and do some research. Not all brands are the same there is a big difference in quality between manufacturers.

If your Z's going to be a daily driver then it may make sense but otherwise I would personally go with a standard Z. Its a Z and things will go wrong from time to time and cost you so best to expect that when considering purchasing.

Personally I would not go for it. If I got another Z I would like to have a small car to run about and keep a z for the weekend. Everyone is different though do your homework on the car and LPG system and you should come to the right decision.

Works out at an effective 29mpg

What sort of driving is that? Any Zed in good condition should do that driven carefully on a motorway.

Thats what I was thinking. Its better than typical mixed driving mpg in a Z, but its not unachievable, and you can get even better mpg than that on a motorway run.

The joy of a gas car is not giving a monkeys about fuel, you dont have to 'be gentle+ can just enjoy driving it'

sounds interesting as i looked at LPG aswell. Is it auto or manual? pics?

its jarring to find alot of my mates cars have near enough the same performance levels but manage to achieve much better mpg than my car ie Audi TTRS, BMW 335i etc Im always the one having to re-fill on long drives

Ye mine will do 25-30 mpg on the motorway driven at average 80-100 mph:) Round town 15-18:( lol

Yep, even considered converting mine, I would if I had the cash, lol

I have run LPG for years and years and its actually good for the engine as long as it has hardened valves, everything stays very clean including plugs, oil will stay looking new for over 20,000 miles. I have taken 2 cars up to 300,000 running LPG and engine was still fine. Its best to run it on petrol now and again just for the lubricants that are in petrol, as gas is very dry, you can get a lubricating system fittid for not much money.

Only thing with gas on a Z is whether the gas is dense enough when a TT Z is running high boost and high revs. i think i would run it on gas when just normal driving but switch to petrol if you going to push hard.

The saving on LPG is going down all the time though as they keep pushing the price up, when i started using it, it was 28p/Ltr, now its 56 p/Ltr !

Having thought about this some more I reckon it would be uneconomical for most Z users considering the cost of conversion with now poorer rates between the pound and Euro where most of the systems come from. Also if anything goes wrong with the Z it would be more hassle to sort and you would have to do loads of miles to recoup the conversion costs and then make savings. For some daily drivers it might be worthwhile or if you can pick one up like in this post that is already converted then it might make sense.

is it a sequential lpg system if so you can tune these alot better than the petrol side as lpg is a higher octane level, they do run abit hotter but dont let that worry you too much..they are a little tight for room but you can put most of the components ie regulator gas filters etc inside the front bumper....ive converted many different vehicles and have a merc i converted 3 years ago and had not 1 problem....well worth it...any advise needed call me its free over the phone....07522058620...lee
