Lights on steering heavy. Oil level bit low but topped up, turn the key off and then on hicas fine. WTF This is really pi$$ing me off, may be a oil leak? how easy is to remove this system but keep power to the steering.

Now the level is normal it still plays up after about 5 mins of driving. Last time it did this i changed the oil and all was good for about a month. Confussed any one know of a solution.

Thanks Damo

There are reams of info on here about Hicas problems, if you do a search on Hicas you will see.

I removed my Hicas after I had problems.

Hi Damo, Understanding the function of the hicas light and what the issues the system can suffer from is important so as to make the correct diagnosis.

So the hicas light has two functions

1) Low fluid level warning

This can activate when level is just on the mark when cold and then go out when fluid has expanded a bit, this in not indicating a hicas fault and the steering or hicas will not be effected.

2) Sensor failure

The hicas system rarely fails in its own right however the system relies on inputs from other sensors like the steering wheel, the speed sensor and to a lesser degree the throttle and abs.

Usually when one of these signals fails the hicas ecu will default the hicas system to off and the light on the dash will come on, this will stay on till the ignition is cut and restarted. In this case the normal steering will not be effected just the hicas disabled.

As your steering is effected the hicas light coming on is only a symptom of the problem and not directly the cause.

The most likely is the speed signal is been lost due to a faulty sensor, speedo, delimiter or broken cable not the hicas system

Determining which one is by a process elimination and testing.

Hope that clears it a bit for you.

On another note: How is the car handling now after the shock absorber change...better I would bet:dance:

Car is great now thanks. Last time the hicas light came on i drained the oil and replaced and it was ok. Speed sensor it might be, the clocks are out im sure of it at higher speed, Brake pedel feels harder to if thats any thing.

correct me if i am wrong as i also believe this is the speed sensor however a member i know on here also had the same problem and luckily for him he slightly over filler the power steering and all was good....

unfortunately this is not the case for me but i still have the problem... but maybe you could also give it ago?

My Hicas was disabled via a locking bar however the hicas system was not also disabled so my car still tries to access the hicas (i think anyway)

hopefully more people will give their opinions soon
