Since moving house, I've decided not to have Sky re-installed as I don't watch a huge amount of TV. Got one of the digi boxes I had in the old place, but unfortunately will not pick up any digital signal what so ever. The TV receiver though currently picks up all 5 terrestrial channels perfectly.

Anyone know if I need a special larger aerial suitable for digital TV or do you think a different box is required?

i reckon you;ll need an aerial booster,or something similar.....or maybe you cant get freeview in your area.....i cant where i live so have to have a sky dish...

I am only about 20 miles (as the crow flies) from the Mendip Transmitter and the area is covered afaik.

Hi Si,

You'll need a different aerial probably, what's happening is that the area your in will be running at 50% power for the digital signal until they turn off analogue it may not even be coming off the same Transmitter as the analogue. What's you postcode?

Now... it could be your box at fault... If you buy another get a Humax or Philips.

On the Aerial front you can get them from B&Q for approx £40 if in doubt get one with a mast head amplifier, or nip to maplins and get a signal tester and that should tell you what's what...

The option I'd choose though is Free Sat as they have HD Channels and are expanding...

Anyhow if you've got any other questions drop me a PM

Cheers

Paul

OK... Just checked, you should be able to get Freeview in your area but official switchover is 2012 and your transmitter is Bluebell hill, meridian... So probably just an aerial change.

Thanks mate, much appreciated. I already have a Philips digi-box, so new aerial it is then.

Also check the cable too mate and make sure its 1 length without any extentions unless its going through a booster.

hmmmmm... had another thought... your house looked fairly new(10 years old or so), have you got a passive splitter in the roof space or more than one aerial socket in the house i.e. one in the living room, master bedroom and kitchen?

Keep forgetting you've been to my house! LOL No I haven't actually. I do want to run one into the front bedroom though.

...actually come to think of it, there are two downstairs. There is a socket panel on the left hand side of the living room and a cable simply coming through the wall on the other. This one runs up the side of the house to the aerial and is the one I use. I don't know why there's the socket on the other side though. Need to investigate. I'm up in Solihull at the moment, but will check later when I am back home....if I can fight through the queues on the M5 for the Glastonbury festival!
