my z is seriously slow, timed it on stopwatch tonight over 3 runs, best i got was 9.3 then 9.7 then 9.8, not in that order tho, its also pap on fuel, i get about 45 miles on 20 quid, it runs smooth as silk and is quiet as a mouse, shows all clear on the ecu diag, and shows plenty boost pressure on the aftermarket guage, there is no smoke whatsoever at all no matter how long it ticks over, or how hard you accellerate!! i realise autos are gonna be a bit less fuel eficient/slower etc but ive had five of these cars and this is definately the slowest by far, so what do i do??? do i take it to jeff ( 300 miles away, fuel will cost me fortune) or do i give it to nissan, or does anyone round here(newcastle upon tyne) know these cars well enough to find the prob as its spoiling a stunning car??? any help would be apreciated cheers

To be honest I'm not sure Nissan is the way to go, there people are not trained on these cars anymore, Jeff on the other hand has a good track record with these cars. Contact Jeff see what he can come up with.

Hi

Probably best off doing a compression test and boost leak test as well as sticking conzult on it.

hi new to this but timed what over 3 runs? if thats ss quater yer a dragster

He is obviously talking about 0-60 I would think, but as you say if it is a standing quarter mile then it is seriously quick, he should stop moaning. Don't go down the Nissan garage road as they will not have the expertise anymore. Surely someone in your area has a Conzult which might give some idea of what the problem is, which I have to say sounds very much like timing being a bit retarded. Conzult would show this and if it is advancing with the engine revs. Can you put a timing light on it to check, it is a fairly basic job.

Timing was 15 btdc had it on conzult but to be honest didn't have a clue how to use it lol, ecu shows no error codes and it was 0 to 60 ha ha ha she ain't no dragster I'm afraid, that's tickled me that like , is there a section to show how to check timing on here ? I feel that could be it, as the guy before I had it put his own cambelt on it just before I got it !!

To check your ignition timing is right you'll need to use a timing strobe to check that your actual timing matches with what the conzult is saying. If it doesn't then you'll have to adjust the CAS until it does.

As for the valve timing, you'll need to take off the upper belt covers, set the crank pulley to 0deg and check that the cam pulleys timing marks line up with the marks on the back plate. If they are all 180deg out then turn the crank another full rotation and you should be there.

I am one happy guy, timing belt was a tooth out to the crank, measured 60 teeth instead of 59, all the pulleys were fine so it was a matter ofreleasing the tensioner and turning the crank a notch, and OH MY F@@KIN G@D what a difference, its like a bullet, amazed, thanks for the replies guys and thanks to jefftt for taking the time to help over the phone today.......
