June 24, 200916 yr How do people do the trims in there cars ie cream interior trim kit or blue etc etc as i was looking to do mine, is it a kit i have to buy and fit or do you cover the existing trims with leather etc yourselves ?
June 24, 200916 yr If your looking to DIY (rather than pay an upholster) then you can either buy pre-cut leather for the panels (then are ebay sellers and some suppliers in the states) or you cut it yourself from a 4m roll (cheaper and only a little extra work). You remove the old tweed (which you can use as templates for cutting the new leather) and bond the leather to the panels using either upholstery glue or something like Evostick Solvent Contact adhesive.
June 24, 200916 yr If you do decide to 'Do-It-Yourself' it is relatively straight forward. If you want it in leather one full cow hide will be more than enough (assuming you don't make too many mistakes ;) ) Carefully peel off the old tweed, once this is done you want to iron the old tweed flat (but you MUST place either brown paper or grease-proof paper on both side of the panels otherwise the glue stuck to the iron or board will not impress you other half!!!) If you have the time I'd recommend doing one panel at a time, so that you can tell exactly how it came off so you can place the new one in the correct location. My biggest tip! TAKE YOUR TIME! There is not one single panel that is easy, so study it, plan it and try it before you apply glue ;) There used to be a full guide, but alas it's now gone :( So I hope that is of use to you, and if you want any more info just give me a shout and I'll see what I can do for you.......... I've done it twice now, so I should be able to answer your questions :D
