Hey guys

Is anyone one here good with car electrics - specifically immobilisers and alarms? I've got all the hardware in place already but as it turns out they were wired up in a bit of a bodge manner so on getting my rebuild and a new loom they were left unconnected (i.e. wires cut out with enough length to rewire properly).

Is there anyone that might be able to help me get these wired back in properly? I'm a bit nervous as having spent all that cash on the engine the car is now sitting there with just the central locking protecting it!!

Would appreciate any help!! Obviously I'm looking to get this done sooner rather than later....

Thanks all

Vig

If you werent so far away mate i would have been able to help you

Paul.

Nooooo....:(

Whereabouts in Cumbria are you? I do drive up as far North (Midlands!) as Stoke so shouldn't be too much effort to go that extra bit...?

What make and model of alarm is it?

The manual i have says 'Sikura' but that's all. Looks pretty old but it worked well when I had it working.

The immobiliser is a 'Vecta Shadow' (??) and then there's the RLTC.

Obviously my priorities are the alarm and immob but eventually need the RLTC reconnected as well.

Thia may be of use to you for the Sikura alarm >> http://carsservice.tripod.com/alarm.html

Still looking for the Vecta Shadow info though

I don't get it...do I have to buy this cd? Cheers for the help though bud...appreciate it but I'm pretty sure the diagrams in this manual I've got are the wiring diagrams.

The problem is me...I'm as useful as a glass hammer when it comes to these things so was hoping to find someone (possibly funded) who could wire it back in for me. As I said, most of the wires/sensors are still in place. It's just the control unit (?) which has been disconnected and removed as it was wired in incorrectly...

Arrrrrrr right sorry, I was on the wrong wavelength here ;)

In that case forget what I've already put up :D

Just a couple of things to bear in mind......

For your insurance you must have a Cat 1 alarm.

This must be backed up by an official, certified, fitment centers certificate.

Any 'messsing' with the original fitment of this alarm (if noticeable) would invalidate an insurance claim, if you ever needed to make a claim.

The above may be obvious ;) It may be possible to have an approved fitment center re-install it for you and supply a certificate for it. Or, probably, they'd want to fit one of their own.

Sorry I can't really help you here

Not to worry mate. Didn't really think about the insurance side of things...:wack:

Thanks for trying anyways!

I am vsib, mesf approved engineer but im pretty sure the sikure and vecta are no longer thatcham approved products. Would prob be cheaper and more reliable to fit a new system

Paul,

 Any recommendations? I might start looking into this then. For the time being, pulling the fuel pump fuse (cheers Jimmy) seems to be the most security I can afford aside from locking the doors!

The 'List' I was reading last night stated that certain models were romoved for a couple of reasons, either they had a problem, like a high percentage of thefts etc, or they were simply superseded by a later model, hence they were removed from the Thatchem approval list. My own model is on the removed list, but is still covered on insurance. So TBH, it's a confusing and stupid situation, how the hell can you tell what's what? Just because your model is replaced, it would then make yours removed from the list, are they trying to say that you should have your alarm/immobiliser replaced everytime a new model comes out?

No it means that the manufacturer has paid thatcham to get on the list for a certain length of time, usually when the alarm is old or the company goes under they are removed from list

I would recommmend the SIGMA S30 as its the most modern/secure/compact alarm on the market at min and has unique keyguard system which means car cant be started even if your keys are nicked, I can supply and fit for £250 with certificate

I'm assuming this keyguard system is the equivalent of an immobiliser then? Do you have any promo links? I'm just about to google it but if you have any info on it would be much appreciated.

Cheers bud

It is part of the combined alarm/immobiliser system and means that you have to type in a 4 digit pin into a keypad before you can start the car

Seems good from the ino I can find but I'm actually quite interested in the Toad Ai606 interactive....do you fit these too?

  • Author

Is the Toad Ai606 any good? I've had a search around and can't seem to find anyone that still fits this model. There are a few other 'interactive/pager' systems available but I've not idea on pricing (fitted) or whether these are any good or not...

The toad ai606 is a good set up.Ive got one and rate it highly.Make sure bud whoever fits it doesnt tap into your new loom :nono:.

Lol..I need to find someone who fits it first!! Crazy how difficult that is in London of all places!!

If you want it done properly, Brett at Custom Exotics might do it. It might cost you more than another installer but from speaking to him it'll be done properly. I had one fitted in an old car by an approved installer. I removed it as I was selling the car and couldn't believe the wiring was done using just black tape, no soldering at all - it was a joke!
