Hey folks,

I have been losing water for ages now but it's starting to get worse. I can do a 10 mile run and require to fill up the rad between 1 and 2 litres. When I pop the bonnet I can hear a hissing coming from the back of the engine. I'm guessing 1 or all the pipes need replacing. Is this an engine out job or can it be done in situe? The MOT is due in a month so I am trying to work out whether to scrap or repair. Any idea on what sort of price I would be looking at paying and is it something that any garage can do or is it a specialist job?

Cheers as always,

Dave

i think it may be an engine out job to replace the rear hose, cold also be head gasket, have you been getting any running probs????

most common cause is the 2 pipes that connect to the heater matrix, right at the back in the centre, they're fiddly to do but don't need engine out, these are quite common so would check these first.

I don't think it's the head gasket, the cars got issues but there's no gunk in the engine that I've seen.

The heating matrix was changed a few years ago. Would it be something a standard garage could do of would it be specialist only?

I would love to get my car up to jeff and get it fully checked out but I'm not sure if it would make it :)

Hi mate, firstly let me just say I've been in your boat and if you scrap or sell you'll regret it... Secondly, i'm in the same boat as you re. Getting the car to jeff, my car would get there but damage could be caused. My suggestion would be to get the car to someone closer, possibly SWZ, they've got a good rep. and, others may disagree with this, possibly ZTech. I've been ripped off before but the new owner, Chris, is doing good work from what I hear. I think that if you get it to someone that knows zeds then you're laughing, it does sound like it's only the pipes to the matrix so you should be ok once you've got that sorted. Anyhow... Goodluck with whatever you decide to do (just don't scrap it!!!)

Paul

They might have changed the pipes but what tends to happen is they pull the old pipes off and this weakens them as they're held on with spring clips, they look ok but will generally just hiss to start with then suddendly burst ive 2 do this. you can normally just put your hand behind them and feel the steam or water hissing.

Zedworld can probably sort you out with a Delivery Service to pick up the car they place it on a Trailer and deliver it to Zedworld! Believe mine cost 100quid from Bedfordshire (East Anglia) or alternatively get a respectable Transporting company to do it as well :)
