I'm wondering what to do with my UK 92 white TT manual, 146k miles?

MOT about to run out and I put it through a little while back to see what it needed as I expected it wouldn't go straight through - 4 items:

* Wiper blade.

* Offside rear brakepipe corrosion.

* Excessive carbon monoxide.

* Offside front (floor to outer sill) seat belt anchorage excessively corroded.

I also took it to Jeff at ZED WORLD with a view to getting it really sorted and to get the bodywork back in true shape. Needs:

* Front & rear sills.

* Rear wheel arches.

* Re-finishing - partial or full respray.

Also needs new cambelt, front tension rod bushes, 2 X hicas arms, plus other odds.

So all in all a fair amount of dosh!

(I'm not z-less as I bought StuartR's jap auto TT a few months ago.)

I've had the car since 94, all still standard, and it has had Nissan parts & servicing for virtually all that time (have all service invoices), until recently. And although the miles are high-ish it still runs well and feels good (to me) to drive.

So a few questions:

* Is it worth getting a Z of this age and condition sorted?

* Is it worth anything much as it is now, how much?

Advice/wisdom truly welcome!

Thanks

John

At a guess I would say there is at least £1000 worth of work that needs doing. If you got it, do it. If not, try selling it but you wont get much im afraid.

It is repairable so it would be a shame to scrap it.

Be a shame to break it mate. As said, if you've got the money, get it fixed. Not worth a great deal as is but it is a manual and a uk (cheaper insurance) so don't let it go for peanuts.

Agreed, if the money isnt a problem, have it sorted.

Also what is the round item bolted behind your drivers side headlamp in the engine bay?

It's the sounder for the alarm system.

How much is it worth as is, considering it runs well etc? £500? Or a little more?

Be good to get an idea?

but it clearly doesnt!!

* Excessive carbon monoxide.

My opinion is that this is about the price you might get.

Stockish cars dont make good breakers . UK cars have significant rust in lots of places. 150000 mile engines arent much of a seller. Lots of parts will be tired/worn etc.

Interestingly Jeff as zed world checked the engine and said it was running fine, but I'm not sure exactly what he hooked up, checked etc, when he gave it the once over.

Is the carbon monoxide a big thing to fix? It's always been well in up until this test.

In general this car has been super reliable, having let me down twice in 15 years, igintion amplifier in the mid 90s and airflow meter last year. It owes me absolutely nothing!

Interesting, my Zed is in very similar condition, and i was going to spend the money on it as i bought the car cheap, but now ive saved the money i want to try and invest it rather than spend it on another project

I'd reshell it. Plenty of good JDM shells about. Get it painted, swap everything over incl all the UK parts and you have a solid base then. :)

Your emissions readings might be due to a dud sensor/crap plugs.
