I am in the process of selling my Zed but three faults are making this difficult. The second of these is with the AIR CONDITIONING.

The air conditioning had never worked since I bought the Zed, so about 18 months ago I got Kwik-Fit to re-gas the system. All seemed OK, their equipment showed ‘no leakage’ and the air cooled perfectly.........for about a month! It then gradually became less effective so I took it back to Kwik-Fit under their guarantee and they retested and regassed the system, again stating there were ‘no leaks’. All was fine again for a few weeks then the cooling gradually became less effective again. I took it back to Kwik-Fit who said that, as their equipment showed ‘no leakage’ the problem must be with a faulty connector on my Zed.

HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR COULD ADVISE ME HOW IT CAN BE REMEDIED?

Regards - Dave

im sure when you regass now you have to reseal everything as the gas that was initially used in our cars is now banned and the new gas leaks past the seals

I can't remember what it's called but my Series 4 Zed has labels saying it uses the new gas, so I don't think that's the problem. Thanks anyway stellaz.

the old r12 system is banned now they get converted to r134a, sounds like you got a leak, need to get the to put in some air con dye. run the system up and when your air con goes again then use a uv light and check the system, and you will see where the dye has leaked out from

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it back to Kwik-Fit and ask them to try your suggestion.

would anyone care if the aircon didnt work, or wasnt there even!

the cars are Targas after all.

ive just removed the entire system from my car, its as much of a selling feature as HICAS :mac1:

My aircon guy put in a compatible alternative to R12. It was definitely not R134a. The z system already runs at a high pressure and I believe that R134A runs at an even higher prerssure in it. So it might be that the pressure relief system might be bleeding it off until it is not nearly as effective as it should be. Mine needs refilled again because the engine was out for turbos and was emptied. But it worked really well before hand for 3 years anyway. The proof was getting 7 deg C with a thermometer at the vents on max cooling! I think the type code for the compatible type refridgerant was R416 or R426.

Thanks for the info but my Zed is using R134A.
