hey people. I was hoping my 1st post on here was guna just be sayin hi etc. But unfortunatly i have a bit of a problem!

After years of wanting a z32 on friday i finally got 1. And i absolutly love it. However after using it the last few days. Today when i used it to pop up to the shops it wouldn't start again!

Now im not sure if its the same with all z32's but when i turn the ignition on you car hear the fuel pump engage at the back of the car. Sounds like its pumping until you start the car. Now all im gettin when i try to start it is a small click. (maybe some sort of relay) and it will turn over but not fire, or if it does fire it wont stay running for more than a few seconds! So it would seem fuel issue.

What i'd like to know is if it has its own fuse for the pump etc or where\how i'd start trying to solve it. Does the tank have to come off to get at the pump etc? I havnt had chance to look yet but am just seeking some advice!

Cheers

Mal

oh and welcome to the club

Have you got an immobiliser fitted? It's possible that this could cause the problem you are describing, I had it on mine and took a while to realise what it was.

As for getting to your fuel pump it's under the spare wheel, there is an access panel.

If it is the immobiliser then there is a relatively simple way to by-pass it, but I'm not posting on an open public forum where and how. If it comes to this, let me know and I'll do it via e-mail.

To save a lot of fanny arsing around trying different things and maybe getting no where, look at this link and do as it says as it only takes 10mins. Tell us the fault that it tells you and we'll tell you how to fix it ;)

If that looks daunting, get a bag of frozen peas or similar and when you look at the engine, on your left (drivers side) at the front you'll see a wiring harness going to a grey alloy block a few inches square that looks like it has fins. Place the frozen veg in your hand and then onto the front of this small unit for a few mins so as to cool it down. Then try the car again a few minutes later, no start, then do as in the link.

Fuse is located in Top Left of the Engine bay in a tiny little box with around 8other fuses! It should be labelled which one it is!!

Could well be your CAS Sensor (Crank Angle Sensor) as this will cause it not to start!! The connector are prone to coming loose or going brittle and breaking! Check that also!! (Is under the hardpipe on the Right of the engine bay on the cam cover!

To check if it is your fuel pump unplug the hose going into the fuel filter put a cup at the end and prime for a second (as loads fuel will shoot out) if you get fuel its probably CAS sensor if there is No fuel will be the fuel pump!!

Good Luck :D

Also if it is Turning over wont be an Immobiliser as that will stop you before that point so it wont be that! if in doubt unlock again with keys in ignition!

Sorry, but it still could be, because this is what happened to mine, the immobiliser worked fine, except that it didn't allow the fuel pump circuit to work!

Either way it's investigation time ;)

ok, checked fuse and other lil bits and piece's. Have noticed that i cant hear the fuel pump prime now like i could when it was starting fine! Could be fuel pump?

the fuel pump will only prime each time youv tried starting the car.

if you just turn the ignition on & off, without starting the car it wont prime.

do that ECU check thats the easiest!
