Hi people, looking at rebuilding the engine soon and decided on nearly all areas of the rebuild except for what turbos to have! want an overall turbo fast at spooling and good at high revs but dont want to spend loads on these. Im a best in getting the original ones upgraded? and when the engine is complete with the rebuild what type of boost is save to run at? also will i need to take it to a rolling road/performance garage for them to set up the mapping/timing/best boost etc etc?

Thanks again Andy

I think for the best all round fast road turbo setup your looking at the JWT 530BB . Fast spooling with a power potential of around 450hp at the rear wheels (500+ fwhp)

Z1 Motorsports do their own version of this turbo at a great price called the Z1 GT535R

Popular upgrades, increasing in size :

- JWT Sport 500

- Z1 GT525

- Z1 GT535R / JWT 530BB / GT2554R

- Z1 GT600R / GT2560R / GT28R

- Z1 GT675RS / GT2860R / GT28RS / JWT 700bb (new version with 0.64 AR) / HKS GT2530

- Greddy TD04 16G

- Greddy TD04 18G

- SZ-EXP90 / GT3071R BB

must say these look the db's, but at £1400 thats a lot of money, will have to get saving lol get me a nice boost control to go with those.

Dont forget youll need higher flow injectors with the gt535s.555 would be the minimum.Even on there stock wastegate setting of around 11psi you could still max out the standard ones and kill your engine with detonation.

got 555's on my list. dont know if to ditch the cats or not, mines an 93 and as fitted from factory will need them for mot so dont know what to do yet with that.

What he said:smash:

When looking at turbo's you are going to need to consider the other hidden costs.

i.e. if you move to the JWT 500's you can keep your existin downpipes as they are 4 bolt.

Anything like the JWT530BB's or above then you'll also need 5 bolt down pipes.

I had 530bb's fitted on my old Zed and it was pushing over 530bhp (dyno maxed out) at 16psi. It's running at 19psi now and can happily run 21psi when needed (24psi on race fuel). Unfoturnatley the new owner has not had a chance to dyno it yet at 19psi so we are not sure of the exact figure that it's pushing. But what I can say is put aside the BHP figure, the car was rapid. it started spooling at 2,400 rpm and pulled all the way to red line without a single let off.

If I was to get another 300zx, then the JWT530bb's with Mike smith manifold, 555 injectors and inocol downpipes would be on the list straight away.

Do you think you could connect that up to a variable gearbox and run in it like a supercharger?

I don't, but it's the pasties on his feet that I yern for.

Are you feeling nautical?

I think the same pair still see active duty!
