Managed to get a quick trip to the dyno today to sort some running in mapping but unfortunately my clutch release bearing siezed on one of the run downs so had to cut the session short.

Didn't even get any mapping done, just enough runs to establish 2 things really: First that the fuelling is still too rich but OK to run for now.

Second that the airbox/intake hose combo I have is too restrictive. Didn't manage to isolate which part due to the problem above, very frustrating.

Results so far, with air box lid on, ~350bhp. With lid off 420bhp @ 7.5k (on the current rev limit). Not too bad for such a rough, guesstimate tune, hopefully a bit more to come.

I think I may have been a little conservative on the cams, at 2500rpm it's making 300ft-ibs :D

Flywheel, never see the point in quoting wheels figures, its meaningless.

You can do 2 runs in different gears and get different wheels figures, changing tyre pressures will change the wheel figure as will sitting someone in the boot but if you do the run down properly you'll always get the same flywheel figure.

cool. Must be awsome having instant throttle response in a zed.

It is! That was kind of my whole reason for doing it, I hate the elastic-band-throttle-cable feeling of turbo motors.

Got to say, in this respect it has exceeded my expectations, the finesse you can meter the power out with is unbelievable and the response is literally instentaneous. Can't wait to get the steering sorted out so I can start to exploit it and get a feel for the limits again.

  • 1 month later...

thats an insane torque figure at that rpm! lol.

What sorta spec are you running if you don't mind me nosing? hehe. Also what clutch are you running as Ill be changing mine soon and unsure what to get...

Did you use Thor for the dyno Buddy.Well done on all the work you have put in.:bow::bow:

problem with thors dyno is its a hub dyno so you dont get an accurate figure, the hub figure is closer to at the fly than at the wheels so most people dont like to use them as much

Mike

So much torque, can't wait :hyper:

Have you done any more to the tuning yet John?

What sort of MPG are you getting? lol

sounds great looks great.....but.....ahhhhhh squeeky brakes.lol

Eclipsed: Brief spec: VH45DE overbored to 5l, bespoke slipper pistons, 12:1CR, bespoke H-beam rods, copper haed gaskets, HLA converted to solid, besopke cams 280deg at 50' 70/30 30/70 timing when VTC on, bespoke individual throttle bodies with jenvey trumpets, heads ported by CTM, valves back cut, custom air box (Alunox), alunox exhaust manifolds (44mm ID x 1000mm primaries) merge collectors, 4" exhaust with silencer bypass :) Emerald k3 ECU, bosch 440cc type 3 injectors, stock nissan COP ignition, NGK BKR7EIX-11 plugs.

Clutch is an ARP paddle with fidanza flywheel- not the nicest to use but holds the torque no problem.

Vinz: Cheers mate. Didn't use Thor, use my mates dyno in Telford.

Nick: No, not had time to do anything else yet. Have developed a missfire I need to pin down first and not had a chance to look at it much. Did discover the cams weren't changing over though so that should lift the top end a good bit, effectively was running with 20deg retard on the inlets.

Blood hell John you must be over the moon with those results so far. Can't wait to see the finished article.

Has to be one of the most exciting Zeds in the country.

Andy

Oh, and the squeak is sorted now too, was pretty annoying.

good good:D! Now i love it:rofl:
