Got my MOT early next week and one problem that was noticed once before was that the steering column has a slight bit of play in it - maybe 5mm side to side.

Last time I just tightened up the bolts on the brace under the column shroud but it keeps coming loose.

I haven't had a look under there for ages and can't remember exactly how it bolts up but has anyone else had this problem?

Is it possible to weld it or something so it doesn't keep moving?

Just looked at the breaker I have you could drill some new holes about 20 or 30mm lower,

but I would try some lock tight on the nut first.

Thanks I'll have a look when I get home.

Just getting some ideas together for when I'm stumped later on LOL

I had this problem some years ago, after trying to fit an a/m steering wheel. I had sideways play, the same Chris, about 5mm. I changed the angle of the brace bolts so they pointed towards the centre of the steering column, and have had no issue's to date. Might help you matey.

Cheers for that, I'll have a go tomorrow.

Got to bleed the new brakes too, should be fun!

god i have this problem too.. its so annoying ive bolted unbolted turned them round this that used glue that unstuck, i give up. The whole steering colum moves from left to right if ya force it and when ya get in and out the car u cant help but bump into it....

im thinking to just araldite the brackets or something. might be as simple as fitting new ones of those nuts that it screws into.

Mine failed the MOT for it a few years back but there were other items too so I just screwed it up tight and it went through when it was all fixed.

Keeps doing it though.

Must be all that hard cornering when I'm hanging on for dear life! LOL
