and get my car repaired, i moan and groan about everything i do on my car, but im gonna bite the bullet and strip it (starting this weekend), im not letting it go for buttons, ive put too much work into it to let it go for less than 3k (was willing to take £2500 for it), but *****cks im gonna repair, would prefer to crush it rather than let someone take it for buttons

as for so called members talking behind the scenes about my car, it has been very faithfull and has only really let me down on the underside of the body and some wear and tear, it has all been fully sorted, the running prob ive had for so long has been the lack of opening it up on the open road and the pcv valves choked up, in the 5 years ive had it-its only been off the road a few times whilst waiting for parts, seems to be just put down tactics to get the price knocked down

i know the milaege lets it down and the fact its catc recorded, but its worth more than £2500, the only way it will go for that price is if the crank has to come out and be ground, i havent really got the funds to repair anymore than just the shells, but we shall see, ive been offered a place to store it for a month or so if i need time to save cash up

even been thinking about a bank loan and send it to jefftt for an engine transplant, but im not too sure ATM

just thought i would post this up hoping i get some words of encouregment lol

dont get me started on a v8 lol, the worst part is ive no chance of owning the zed i was after originally

in my humble opinion i would send it to jefftt for a transplant think that alone would go along way. good luck in whatever you decide.

dan.;)

There is of course one advantage of the engine transplant Alan, the mileage.

Jeff will tell you what the other engine is and you can then later advertise that the car is now using a fully serviced and gauranteed engine with X amount of miles.

This in itself should install some confidence to prospective purchasers more than you simply replacing the shell's yourself, IF that's what it turns out to be.

Just an idea incase you considered that route a bit more ;)

cheers people

ive thought about sending to jeff, but if i still want to sell, would i get the money back on the transplant????

Well personally and it's only my opinion mate, with the transplant done and a well worded advert pushing the newly fitted engine complete with gaurantee, i think you got a 4.5K zed.

cheers

will check the noise out first and go from there

dont think i will bother trying to sell on here, there are too many people ready to put my car down, and also im honest and there are many threads where ive hated my zed and many help me threads so looks bad, but IMHO i would rather buy a zed with all the probs fixed rather than pay a lot of money for a zed and have nowt but bother with it

to be honest i would like to speak to the people who say my car is nowt but problems, only one person from this forum has looked at my car and he just sprayed some carb cleaner in the bay and charged me £40 for it, so im not sure how they could make a diagnosis without really knowing fook all about my car

you coyld be right, will see what the inspection brings up

The best of luck in whichever way it goes for you Allan. I can sympathise with you on not knowing which way to turn especially with mine being the way she is at the moment (I even considered packing it all in and either selling to a breaker or trying to break her myself this week  until I struck her up the other day  )

Anyway, see what your findings are and, as you say, work from there it's the only way forward IMO all the best with it.

cheers dave, will keep my fingers crossed for an easy fix, gotta be worth 3.5k with the bottom end repaired

I think the huge amounts of threads relating to problems you've had with your car are what people take note of regardless of how reliable you say it is.

But, good luck with the route you're taking. Just think that everything you do is just going to keep making it better and better. At the end of the day, all cars of this ilk and year are one continual life-long project. :)

know what ya mean si, but as said im honest and have nothing tohide, people have probs and say nothing then just sell the car on, im glad the bottom went before it sold, would have hatedfor a potential new owner to have a car and the bottom go on it the way it did

I know mate, but everyone has niggles with their cars. I am sure if you'd try to do a search first and fix it yourself before adding a thread. I know you're trying to be honest, but sometimes, it makes the situation worse. It has had its fair share of issues and everyone on here knows that now. You've fixed them all which is good, but it just gives the wrong impression on the car.

Take some time out with the car. Buy an old nail of a Fiesta or something and make the engine and turbos something to be proud of. Start amassing parts now. Give Jimmer a call and get him to start building you up something nice. :) You'll be so happy when you get it back. A strong engine and more power will only help you fall in love with the car again.

can see where ya coming from mate, appreciate the honesty, as you said, i have repaired all of the things that go worng, ive also repaired the faults that come with uk cars such as the rot and various corroding

i would really like a nice bayside blue slicktop, lowered with some nice smooth skirts a 99 spec front, and some sort of rear skirt

Then why don't you buy an NA slicktop shell then and start from scratch? IIRC, PJ had a slicktop NA going...might be wrong. If you get a slicktop shell or an NA slicktop, it might be a fun project.

would love to, but the main prob is and always has been, i have nowhere to keep it, i havent even got a drive unfortunately, maybe in the future with another house i will have the room to have a nice project going

i love legrath's motor

You got enough cash to rent a unit? Or rent a unit with some friends (if you have any;)).

  • Author

pmsl, cash is tight ATM with house renovations, ive still got a lot to do

as for renting with friends, will they take imaginary money from my imaginary friends lol

May as well go and end it then Allan. I hear barbiturates are the way to go. :wack:

Seriously, renting a garage can't be that expensive up there? I rented a garage once and I think I paid something like £50 a month for it. A friend of mine now stores his BMW 850 in it.

  • Author

but that on top of buying a car and running it gets costly, also the house takes up a lot of time, just not viable ATM

Well my opinion for what it is worth is :

  1. The fact that a car HAD a lot of problems that were all sorted would not concern me. Anybody buying one knows that these babies are old high performance vehicles that require looking after and having money spent on them. I had an isuzu once that broke my heart but I repaired everything. Told the buyer everything about it and he never had one problem with it in his 3 subsequent years of ownership
  2. Its a nice widebody which will appeal to some and anybody wanting it done to a new purchase must expect to pay a couple of £k's to get it done. But that said, its not really a mod that increases the value of a zed. It's like all the extras on a car that you trade second hand. They don't necessarily increase the value of the car, but do help it to shift quicker to the right buyer.
  3. I'd get an engine rebuild done and then either fall in love with it again or flog it. I did an engine transplant into a BMW and since the day I did it, I regretted not spending an extra couple of hundred euro's and having my block rebuilt
  4. I'd respect peoples opinions on their value estimates. Its a buyers market currently and to be fair not many punters would pay £2500 - £3000 for a zed with a problem engine irrelevant of how it was maintained. There are no undertones or ulterior motives in this point from me by the way.

Anyhow that is just my opinion and if it helps great. If it doesn't, just ignore.
