I've put my car on ramps, while I get the old exhaust off and have a general clean underneath. Reading the instructions that came with the ramps, it states "only use one set of ramps at a time". All the ramps are rated at 2t and it feels a lot safer than using axle stands. Is this dangerous, or are Halfords being over cautious?

it wont be very stable if rocking side to side, i would not get under that at all, always have two wheels on the ground to keep it stable and safe

The rear set look like they are a little under strain. I would turn 1 set around, so ur 300 does not roll off if the breaks fail.

oh and by the way, if you have removed the front bumper so as not to catch it on the ramps, you can put a lump of 3x2 wood at the front of the ramp drive it onto that first and it will lift the car enough to get it up onto the ramp

It's solid mate, there isn't any side to side movement (unless you rock the bugger!), it's as though the cars on the road. You can't really see it in the photo but the ramps have wider bases than the wheels.

I see what you mean mate, the rear ramps are fine but are about a 1/2" higher than the front set, that and the slope in my drive makes the car lean forward a bit. The photo does make it look worse than it is tho'

lol.. I know mate, i've got the certificate to prove it!

I'm basically restoring it and getting it to a modified stock look. Hopefully to last me for ever. Spent about 5k so far on bits and it's got to have a full respray yet! Loving every minute of it :hyper:

Cool...... keeps us all updated with pics of your project matey.

i would turn one set around and if you got some axle stands use them as i backup . i worked on a car once that moved just as i got out from under it. So now im belt and braces when working under cars.

....the ramps are rated high enough as you are unlikley to exceed 1 ton load in each corner...but for my money axel stands are much safer no wobble etc when working underneath as stonewall said belt n braces

I might have to do this myself with the V8 while i get the prop on and gearbox in under the car. It should be fairly stable like that. I can't see how axle stands can be any more sturdy when they have a smaller base area to stand on

I guess, so, i was thinking of using the same setup as at the top but with the axel stands underneath front and back for safety's sake

I always chuck something under the car while i'm working on axel stands or a jack like some old wheels just in case the car slips off.

Me too, no matter what I'm using to lift the car, I put old wheels underneath to make a safety cage. Theres a guy at my dads work who was working on a transit and it fell on him, he was stuck under it for 2 days until people came in on Monday, apparently he still walks funny to this day.

I think i would aswell if i was stuck under a tranny for 2 long days:D
