Is the HICAS light coming on?

Either way do a search for HICAS light and you'll find loads of info on the likely causes :)

Low tyre pressure ? I'm not insulting your intelligence but low profiles are hard to tell if they are flat just looking at them.

Can't spell LOL

(excuse the technical terminology)

I had it once... everything seemed fine, opened the power steering pot thingy, the fluid was fine, with the car running turned the steering left, right etc and it sorted it self out. Must of been some air bubble kinda thing somewhere in there :)

I suck at car talk!

Im not technically minded so im sure others can shed more light.

But i have the same problem... there is a sensor, i believe, which controls the power steering stiffness.... mines stuck in 'stiff' mode (oo-err), sounds the same with yours

just checked the steering full left then right hand. Steering had returned to normal while left parked up must have been a glitch in the system the only thing I had happen while out driving earlier was the back end step out slightly coming off a roundabout. Thanks for all your suggestions an replies.

The speed sensor controls the power steering force. It's all controlled via a small box (NA) and a bigger box (TT) down by the ECU. A variable voltage is fed to the solenoid on the power steering rack to control the amount of turning force required.

Like I said if you search for HICAS light all will be explained

This question gets asked daily and there must be hundreds of replies on the forum already.

Very impressive Athene  ;)

I search this but come up with no real advice to cure the problem so i drained the power steering reservoir and replaced the oil. All is fine now, may of been a air lock. Try that mate, my hicas light was on too until i did this, also check if you hicas light comes on when you first power the ignition on. May be some one has took the bulb out.

  • 1 month later...

how do you drain the power steering fluid and what type of fluid do you use?
