Sorry for the lengthy rant; but bloody Mercedes bodyshop.....:xxx:

I had a small accident in my SLK last summer - some twat drove into the back of my car whilst I was sitting in traffic. It didn't look much; but owing to the roof mechanism and the car still being under warranty, I made sure it was repaired by the local MB garage. They were paid over £10k for their efforts.

When I got the car back (it was away for 10 weeks), it appeared they had managed to "decorate" the bonnet and another panel with light scratches whilst cleaning it; so back it went for a machine polish.

In September, when I returned from a holiday in the Yorkshire dales, I was washing the car and noticed that the horse shit I was hosing off had marked the new laquer on a door and rear wing. So back it went again for those panels to be resprayed.

Last month I noticed that some paint had started flaking off the bumper and the laquer on the rear wing near the window rubber had cracked (yup, they masked the rubber rather than remove it). Also some "spotting" had become apparent on the boot lid under the laquer. So back it went again.

I go the car back Tuesday and I have to say it looked perfect this time. However today, whilst parking the Z in my garage/chatting to a neighbour, a bird crapped on the boot lid and roof. Not a problem I thought; it was there all of 10-15 minutes and normally with a good coating of wax polish, there would be no issues.

WRONG! I wiped off the offending turds only to find one has eaten into the brand new laquer on the boot lid (the "old" paint on the roof is fine); so how have MB managed to feck it up this time?? Why can't the bloody body shop do a proper job that won't flake, crack or get eaten by animal crap:(

To say I'm pissed off is an understatement - you'd have thought that taking it back to MB would be as good as taking it to the factory; but no. I have the body-shop manager himself coming to my office tomorrow morning to take a look; I refused to make the effort to take it back to them.

Looks like it will be away for another week and I don't know what they will do wrong next time:cry:

its getting harder these days Richard to get a decent job from any field..and after reading your story ide start to feel a little pissed off myself:(...which brings me to another question,"wtf are birds eating these days??" one of my customers pointed out his white uvpc window that had been shit on and it looks like its been burnt with a blowtorch ffs:confused:,they must have thermo nucular arse holes these days

Bird shit will destroy laqour as it takes a long time to properly harden. My dad had an xjs for years and after it had whatever done to it, and was specifically told not to let any birds shit on it for at least 6 weeks.

But i do agree, it is hard to find a decent bodyshop these days

My mate had a nightmare with his brand new VW Eos and paintwork. I was shocked to hear they were using back street bodyshops for all their work instead of anything in house.

All is well with it now.....

I called the garage and they sent someone to my office yesterday morning with some fine grade wet & dry paper and some polish. The chap did his best and almost removed the blemish; but when I got home I could still see it albeit much more faintly than before.....

.......so I returned to MB this morning and they had another go and gave the boot lid a good machine polish and it's back to normal!

I have just coated it with a few layers of wax to protect it; hopefully it will do the trick and ny contaminants will attack the polish not the laquer. At last until it's fully "cured"

Richard:)
