Hi folks hoping someone can help me here, as my cars currently off the road having an engine re-build after heater matrix fail and head gaskets going pop:(, i thought i'd strip and prep the body to paint it soon, but basically i've found out you can't remove the door cards with the windows up, my car is minus a dash and engine etc, so any ideas how to get my windows down?

i'm assuming with so many things unplugged etc that there's a gap in the system as i've tried just hooking the battery up but they won't go down,

i do hear a couple of clicks from where dash would be,assuming they're relays.

if anyone can help it'd be appreciated!

thanks

Ryan

I'm not sure I follow you ... It is indeed possible to remove the door cards with the windows up - the two have nothing to do with each other. The door cards are held in place by a number of screws and various poppers around the edge. Undo all of those, pull the bottom of the door card away from the door and then pull upwards. When the card is off you can then disconnect the switches.

Isn't there 1 bolt on the B pillar that you have to have the window down to get to?

You should just be able to put your window switches in and get the window down.

Err .... Its not that simple Danny:slap:

the first thing inside you need to remove is the pillar trim. This is held in place by a screw which you get to by lowering the window and removing the black round disc that gives access to the screw.

BEHIND the door pillar trim are the two top screws holding the door card on.;)

If you undo the bottom of the door card carefully you may be able to reach in and disconnect the plug on the motor loom. Then you can apply a direct feed to the window motor from a battery. Up one way. reverse polarity to go down IIRC

Quite right Pete & Vijay - my bad! :headvswal I've not taken a door card off in a few years so forgot about the B-pillar bolt ... That will be the reason why the window needs to be down! If not all the way then just far enough to get to the B-pillar bolt.

I stand corrected! :)

Regards,

Here's the link to the How-To for removing the door cards that I did some time ago... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=30098

As for not being able to lower the window, if you remove everything else first you'll be left with the B pillar trim in place and the top two B pillar fixing screws for the door card. You CAN gently lever up the B pillar trim and, using a 13mm spanner, undo the two fixing screws (as they are bolt-head screws). This is a tricky and time consuming operation, but better than anything else.
