** NB** DO NOT play on the railway! This photo was taken on a PRIVATE railway, of which I'm one of the Operations Safety Managers, so I know what I was doing! ;)

Went to Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany a few weeks ago and most of the pics i got were'nt very good, and even this aint great but its interesting at least - the arm moves up and down all the time, like it is hammering something.

I know it well. It's ridiculously big! And the Exhibition Halls where I imagine you went are bloody huge to boot. Been to Frankfurt about 8 times now and always seem to have a good time there. A light Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen and one of the best steaks in the whole world can be found at the "Steinerne Haus" in the Old Quarter: http://www.steinernes-haus.de/e/index.htm Weirdly, they have a "Skyscraper Day"...celebrating...er...skyscrapers...there's a fair and everything...strangeness indeed!

It was the third time for me and yep it was held in the exhibition halls. In all honesty i simply cannot begin to describe the vast scale and size of the place! You literally walk miles to get to certain halls! They have a single hall just for say......Electric Guitars that would put most british trade fairs to shame - and that would be ALL they had to offer.

They had 8/9 halls in total, all massive and all jam packed with trade stands, not only showing their stuff and taking orders but loads of live music going on - covering every musical instrument you can think of! They've also got a couple of live tents outside and some very 'famous' talented, excellent players. When someone very famous is playing the tent fills pretty bloody quick - Simon Phillips played a half hour set and they were literally out the door LOL.

It was mainly business for me and my dad TBH however we managed to take it all in and we saw some incredible players. Bands you'd never heard of, some of them only like 15/16 and they played like pros  Just an incredible place to be, even if you are not going for business, its well worth the ticket price for everything else going on. Weather ALWAYS seems to be perfect aswell

Thanks for the link, we actually stayed 15 miles away in a place called Morfeldon (sp) as we had to book fairly last minute and hotels in Frankfurt itself either did'nt exist or cost a ridiculous amount! Anyway we had to find places close by so that we could make the most of their proper beer in proper big glasses LOL :D

Have you been to the Musikmesse? Or just been for other reasons?

Sounds pretty cool. :) Being more than a bit of a muso and guitar and music production freak myself it sounds like it's right up my street!

Nope, unfortunately I didn't go to the Musikmesse, I was (still am I think!) involved with photographing the Hair and Beauty event held at the Messe Frankfurt every year. Photographing scantily clad models is a tough job but somebody's got to do it dammit! :wack:

Lets swap :D

Im sure you'd much prefer loads of sweaty men playing guitars and what not to taking picture after picture of half naked women. Swap - you know it makes sense

I'll be honest mate, even if you're not in the trade at all, its worth it for a pleasure visit. Take your own food in tho - ruddy awful crap they serve there! Also if you go on the last day (Saturday) it is literally packed full because everybody is off work etc...... BUT alot of companies sell off their stuff to save taking it back, so you could pick up a bargain :D

lol! That was a suprise! After a lot of deliberation I decided to use the above pic (which I took on a misty morning in the woods at Hanbury...both the road and said woods were absolutely deserted...twas more than a little creepy as I trekked through to the old church on the hill!) in the booklet included with my new album.

For the sake of completeness, here are a couple more that go with it:

Few piccies that I'd consider favourites. All taken by my fair hand with various different cameras. Hope you like.

Same evening, but slightly earlier. Photo of LD Lines' 'Norman Spirit' inbound from Le Havre.

Lake Martinez in Arizona. It was a scorching 52 degrees when I took this. There was no human life anywhere!
