Redline mag

Anyone seen the article in the new redline mag about bov testing?

apparently some of the tests revealed better times (spool up i think) on recircs and on other occasions even better with no bov fitted?.....Just been doing some research on the interweb and there is a lot of mixed views on whether or not it actually does harm if any to the turbo, there is obviously pros and cons to both methods but what is everyones opinions on not using any form of bov?

If you search on here you'll find similar. Stock recircs on Zs are supposed to be pretty decent to a point and better in the stock to medium power Zs than BOVs, plus by having recircs, it means your car doesn't sound like the airbrakes on a Scania truck!

I've never had them fitted to my car and never would! They sound naff and don't really do anything over the stock recirc valves. Whenever I hear one, I just think of all the RS and Renault 5 boyos down Maccys trying to impress their mates with them. They become properly functional over a certain power and then, I can accept them....just.

I have Apexi recircs fitted to mine, as they were a direct replacement for the OEM recircs. Not quite as noisy as a Scania LOL

A'pexi do uprated recircs then Steve? I know that TurboXS used to.

They did but IIRC you can't get a hold of them anymore. They are basically BOV's but are a straight swap for the OEM recircs.

I chose this method, rather than going for BOV's attached to the intakes.

Apparantly, they are supposed to be better as well, but don't ask me to back that up with facts and data because I ain't got the foggiest. LOL

You sound like a st st st st stuck record

Ok how about removing them full stop? Is there any real evidence that compressor surge damages the turbo?

I'd be asking why Nissan chose to fit them in the first place.

They wouldn't be throwing away all that money on every car if there wasn't a need for them.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

They would have spend a lot of money developing that system and like Chris says, they wouldn't fit them if they were not necessary.
