Just took the Z out, didn't notice it at first, but looked down and saw my Speedo was sat at 0 and the milometer wasn't moving (everything else working fine). Turned round to take it back again and looked down and suddenly it started working again.

Are there known faults with speedos doing this? I'm going to take the binnacle off in a second to check that all the connectors are snug and 'clipped'.

If you have the time mate, maybe worth taking it out and renewing all the joints then its all done!

Yup. I drove it around all of yesterday, no problem. Took it out again this morning to fit the new LED backlights. Refitted, all worked fine. Was just this evening.

did you connect it all properly, might be a lose wire in the back??

They are all block connectors. They simply snap into location.

try and give it all a bit of lube. im sure you will have some in your bedroom somewhere

Hey Si

Try giving all the connectors a blast of electrical cleaner. If its persistent you can always take the clocks out and put them in your old case.

Si i had this a couple of weeks ago vijay had it spot on with a worn section on the worm gear on the motor..may be worth a look and if its ok a thin coat of grease may do it

Problem identified/solved. Took off the binnacle and it appears that the connectors may have a dry joint in them rather than the clocks themselves. I had to give them quite a hard tug to initially pull them out of the old JDM clocks, so may have disturbed them a little.

Wiggled them around to watch the coolant gauge flicker, so realised it was probably that. Made sure the wiring was secured. Took it for a drive up the motorway and back, over some rough-ish roads and not a single peep from it. So it looks like it was that.

how long it take to fit the clocks si? just curious as got to do it myself someday and congrats on fixing the prob

Got that sorted quick!

Thats what she says

Yup. I hate not having things working. Once you've taken the dash apart the first time, it's so easy to pull it all apart the second. I could probably take out and refit the clocks in about 10 minutes now.

@ 8ace, took me about 35 mins the first time I did it. It's easy enough to do. 2 screws holding the binnacle on, this then pulls off. Unscrew the pod switches (2 screws each side on both sides). Pull out from bottom and up. Unclip connectors. Unscrew 2 screws inside each pod, either side. Unscrew 2 bolts at the top of the dash shroud and pull the lot away. There are just 2 screws at the bottom of the clock unit one either side. Unscrew these and the clocks are ready to be pulled out. You then have to unclip the connectors from the back and it's out. Very easy job if you do it in the right sequence.
