My Zed is having a full car blow over with the work being done, which includes correct bumper and bootlid.

My question is, has anybody got any good ideas on what colour i should paint it? The car is mettalic black now, and i dont really want to have the door shuts etc done and would like to stick to black. So the question really is, does anybody have any sort of blacks they like on other cars, or should i do other things like flakes or and 2 tone ideas etc, anything really.

So far its going to be the original colour or high gloss black. A friend of mine thinks gloss black with a red flake would be good, but for me it would have to be a very small flake, and spred across a wide area so not to look like a chav wagon!

Pictures would be great!

Please please for God sake don't go down the metaflake/glitter effect route as it'll make your car look like a fairground ride. I think you want a 'flip' paint as opposed to metal flake. I'd say go with a gold or purple flip on it. Think a red flip might be a little garish, but would be interesting to see.

I'd be tempted to do it just a nice glossy metallic black. Amazing the difference a fresh coat of paint does for a car. Have you thought about getting the rock-guard smoothed? It's a noticable mod on dark coloured cars and gives the car a much more crisp look. I've done it on mine.

Yeh im not a glitter fan myself, not a great fan of mettalic colours either, but i thought gloss black on such a big car would look a bit more out of place, also my xr3i was gloss black, and everytime i parked it somewhere it got another scratch, just so easy to see.

What the hell is a rock gaurd? Lol

The goldy flippy paint sounds good, but its a little expensive, is it possible to have a slightly coloured laqour or something similar? If so i was thinking gloss black, with a blue touch to it.

I think im just going a bit too far now!

That's generally how they do it anyway. A pearl paint has a solid base coat, then a layer of coloured lacquer before its final top coat of clear lacquer. Number of layers of coloured lacquer can determine depth of pearl glow and if you add different colours of coloured lacquer, you'll get the flip colour change.

Anyway, nothing wrong with solid black!

FYI, the rockgaurd is the horrible stone chip effect moulding in the plastics on the lower halfs of the bumpers and also the stone-chip effect on the sills on the dropsides. It's one of the very few things I detest about the Z32, along with the horrible horns and flimsey Nissan Micra Collette style indicator stalk.

I had all my rockgaurd removed and it looks a lot better for it.

Lol i have deep-ish pockets for this project, just short arms!

All i need really is a bootlid with that spoiler, like the one ive got no, but looks like its been shot a few times! And the things that are attached to the back bumper, not really sure what there called :s

Rear spoiler on the black one is a stock spoiler. What one have you got? The things attached to the back bumper are just the JDM mudflaps or 'spats' as some people call them. I think JoelyP had a set for sale. Could subscribe and PM him/ ;)

Also what ride height is yours FunkySi?

Mine is running on Tein S-tech springs. Lowers the car around 20 - 30mm. Wouldn't mind it a touch lower, but happy enough. :)

Yeh i gotta subscribe anyway i just havnt got round to it. Are you admin by any chance?

Cool, are they a rare part? I was gonna call them mudflaps but didnt wanna seem like an idiot:mac1:

Yeh i got the stock TT one, ive always liked them, not a fan on 99spec but i do like the lights.

Yours looks a similar height to mine, ill have a check one day. If not id be happy with the 30mm, i want to spend a reasonable amount tidying the car up, not too fussed on coilovers, rather put the money towards a house.....

Hell no, they wouldn't give me admin rights! I push the boundaries too much with my mouth and opinions! I'm just a mincey sideline voyeur!

I have a 99-spec. ;)

I've always liked the original spoiler too.

Damn, i was gonna say id pop over to give you the money for subscription, i havnt quite got to grips with paypal yet, my ex used to do my subscriptions cus she was good with that stuff, at least she was good for something i suppose!

The cars not going in for another 5 weeks at least, its having bother rear quarters replaced, bumper and bootlid painted and fitted, the welding on the sills blended in rather than something that resembles 2 armor plates from a tank! And just all the scratchs and dings etc done, so its nice and clean for the summer

99 spec isnt too my taste, but the one thing i do like about them is that they give the car a newer look that it deserves, but i just dont think the spoiler suits the contours of the car, looks a bit out of place

You can either get genuine 99" spec lights or convert the older one's to look like 99 spec" with clear diffuser's:D

Dilton Marsh :( !

Yeh she has a bit of tin worm, well did, but i didnt pay a great deal for the car, and it has looooaads of service history, and a lot of reciepts from Zed world i think and often services, and cambelts.

Cooool ill have to have a look into that, cheers for the info! Any idea where i can get the clear diffusers or do you remove the paint from the originals.

Thinking about it, mines got loads of scratchs and stuff anyway so im better off getting some genuine 99 spec, mind you, i have seen the price!!!!

It does from some angles and doesn't from others.

It looks best from a rear end point of view as the drop sides of the spoiler blend in well with rear quarters. But know what you mean. There are few spoilers I like for the Z anyway. The M30Z is about my favourite.
