Does it really matter which way an oil cooler is orientated?

Inlet/outlets at the bottom/top/sides?

One is for the Auto Tansmission Oil - the other for Engine Oil

I am thinking NOT! But just wanted to check with a GURO. ;)

No guru but inlet bottom outlet top sounds the best plan to bleed out the air. Arent they usually side connections to the cooler?

Yeah - I have seen them upside down, sideways etc. And I am still not sure if there is a right or wrong way to mount them.

They have feet on the bottom so...

Am no guru either but try to angle the cooler forward slightly so that the air hits the fins at an angle. This will help keep air flowing through the cooler at high speed. Theory is that if air hits a solid object at a right angle then at some point a "cushion" of air will form in front of the object and prevent the air from reaching it. If the object is at an angle this problem will not manifest itself until a much higher velocity is reached (well beyond the limit of our cars).
