I had some ferodo discs for my Z and they have only lasted about a 1000 miles. And now they are warped.

Can anybody suggest a good disc to go for, and is there any real benefit to running a tt Z with grooved or drilled (or both) discs on the front?

Thanks, Dan

Rather than just fitting another set I think you need to find out why the current set only lasted 10000 miles otherwise you could find yourself in the same position with the next set.

Check all the caliper pistons for free movement, check the rear pads, discs and calipers too, check the master cylinder and also the vacuum check valve, that little blighter makes for all sorts of bad brake issues, and often leads to overheating of the pads/discs which is most likely your problem and will be pad material transfer imprinted onto the disc rather the unit been warped.

I tend to avoid drilled discs as they can often crack. Dimpled are OK I think.

I run EBC 325mm dimpled and grooved with relocated calipers. Much better stopping than standard, and I arranged for the brackets to be made myself.

for the money iv spent on the standard 280 / 26mm na brakes i could'v bought the 345mm daddys!!

Is there not a huge debate about how the big discs might not work properly with an ABS system based on the normal ones? Also that old thorny issue about insurance and modifications.

I remember asking insurers about big brake mods and their attitude was it does not make the car safer. It only implies you are going to drive it faster therefore risk is up and premium too.

good point willie

regarding why they warped (jeff pointed to many common causes check them all) isnt it a possibilty the wheel nuts were/could have been put on too tight and this could cause the same, i think i heard/read about this once?

shaking under breaking IMHO is a caliper sticking issue usually the fronts...you can refurb the units with a kit

can warped rear discs cause steering wheel shake? or anything else for that matter (only under braking)???

Can also be the tension rod bushes are worn out.

As it happens I've got a set of rods with bushes fitted in the Items For Sale section :D
