Yeah the rat look is absolute shite. Purposfully going out to make something look crap is pretty sad TBH. There's a guy near me with a pretty tidy MK2 Golf GTi running on really wide BBS wheels. He's sanded down the bonnet and left it to rust. Can not see the appeal in the slightest.

There's even a rat-look split-screen camper van in the town that I live in too. I mean, those are rare and worth a good few pennies. The pillock's sanded all the paint off, let it rust and then run varnish all over it.

Here's a new-ish Golf that someone's done. Screwed a shitty old roof rack and some nasty brown suit cases to the roof. Really shitty craze.

Here's a MK1 Golf in 'rat-look' guise. Now, I couldn't give a flying **** if it has a 300bhp Turbo engine in it and could leave Ferraris behind, I really don't. It look absolute trash and is pointless.

I get the point of the rat look, but I think it's absolutely shite.

IIRC, someone on here was going to do a rat-look Z32. You don't even need to make the effort to find a Z32 and make it shite as there are enough crap hangers around.

Finally, click this to see the most OTT rat-look car ever.

It's a bit like going to stare at rotting old Jaguars in a scrap yard. Quite how/why people think a peice of scrap looks cool is past comprehension. It's a mess and should be burnt.

A rat-look fan would say that the roof rack was there for some sort of 'style'. I'd put it to them; how can a roof rack have anything to do with style? It's like saying a colostomy bag looks sexy.

It's a purely functional item.

My idea of rat-look is as below...

iv gotta be honest i think its the most original thing iv seen anyone do to a car in 10 years, and i looks awsom, lets face it young, slim good looking ppl get out of rat look cars, whether the rest of the world has to try a damn site harder to be noticed hence the abundance of shiny plastic stapled to most 300's lol!

My word, have you been taking drugs? LOL

Hippy types get out of rat-look cars! I've seen rat-look cars at shows, tell you what, I've never seen any nice women get out of them. If you're into men, I guess that might be another thing. It's far from original. The rat-look scene has been around for decades. Predominantly a VW-scene thing, but has drifted to the rest of the VAG scene and now everyone is doing it.

Totally different perspective, but if you are gonna have anything Rat,

Its gotta look like this !!

Alan.

Yeah, Rat-rods are kinda cool. But a decent painted rod in a kandy paint looks better IMO. :)

simple maths - go to supra meet - predominantly fat middle age men who feel plastic surgery is to costly and dangerous for there face and body so they do it to there car instead....

now look at this pic, look how much it contradicts everything i just said..... lol!

I guess it's just the complete opposite of the blingy chrome look we've had for years now.

Still shite though.

TBH mate, I'd rather not go to a VW meet and stare at rusty junk cars. I haven't my tidy brunette, so I don't mind going to Jap car meets full of aforementioned invididuals!

i bought a 300 to be different id never seen one round my area before, suppose its a cheaper way of making you everyday boring golf stand out and look different, id rather be different to everyone else i could never buy another rep mobile or a focus (except a mint standard lotus carlton or cav turbo c20let) people would argue that bodykits and performance hungry cars like ours are old hat but those ppl are probably so retro they'd disappear up there own mother lol!!

being done quite a lot in honda circles too

Spanking new lights - maybe its a genuine POS and he has started improving it :p

quote from the owner

yes there was a lot of natural rust before I destroyed the paint.
I would love to see someone make a zed bonnet rust

could have corrosion but a white crusty film wouldn't have the same effect LOL

aren't they ally? still doable... just a different kind of oxidisation....... actually if you n/m'd the bonnet you could autosol it n make it uber shiny, the lacquer it???? that would work wouldn't it?

TOO sloooooww

has someone already done it?

no i meant the other type of corrosion. a blinged bonnet would be cool just high maintenance. and lacquer would peel very quickly with the heat

Edited by hellraiser

hmm good point, maybe just g3 thrugh the paint over the bulge in the middle down to the ally n just keep buffing till its like a mirror....... good idea in principle id end up doing the whole bonnet though.... someone must have already done this surely?
